India and Nepal 2022
We left Bandarawela and were given a nice colonial send off by a man in full ceremonial get up. Travelling through the highlands past Ella, a popular tourist town, we stopped to view the Rawana Ella Falls. We also stopped to see the magnificent Buddha rock statues at Buduruwagala carved in the 9th century and which were overgrown by jungle in this most tranquil of locations. As the rest of the group went off for their curry and rice lunch, I found a hammock in a forest clearing to rest up once more as I still feel tired. At one point, I feel the tingly sensation of a few tiny droplets of rain falling onto my body, a refreshing reminder of new energy on its way? The two nurses in the group, Doreen and Elaine came over and suggested it may be time to try antibiotics. You can buy these over the counter at a pharmacist and let's hope they produce some results. The highlight of the afternoon was to see a wild elephant at close up in the reservoir near the national park. As night fell, we reached the most southerly point of Sri Lanka (next stop Antartica) and arrived at our hotel for the next three nights at Unawatuna near Galle.
