India and Nepal 2022
Orisson to Ronscevalles This has been an absolutely fabulous day walking over the Pyrenees following the route Napoleon took with his army to attack Spanish forces two hundred years ago. The sunrise over the mountains was a great way to start the day and I could look down into the valley go see the towns and villages wrapped in mist. Very atmospheric and very serene. The part of today's walk was a steep climb upwards but the training I have been doing over the past month is paying off because I feel in good shape. The meandering roads offer increasingly spectacular views across the Pyrenees and the weather supplies glorious warm autumn sun. I am walking again today with Carol and Ed and initially with Margita from Oregon and then with Alesia from Brisbane in Australia who is doing her second Camino. There are cows, sheep and horses up here and an occasional eagle hovers overhead. The signpost indicating the top of the mountain provides a welcome relief from the trek uphill but actually the downhill stretch through the rough stony path through the forest is ******* the knees! After being out on the hills for six hours, Ronscevalles monastery comes into view. That hot shower was just brilliant and one of the best I have ever had! There are so many nationalities here on the Camino including those from Korea, Japan, Hungary, and Sweden who I have met and chatted with today.
