Today was our adventure day!! We hired a scooter from our host and the conversation went something like this... Ian, "do you need to see my driver's licence?"
Annie, "no"
Ian, "we've not ridden one of these before"
Annie, "I'll get you an automatic then, otherwise you'll be dead honeymooners!"
Us "gulp"
Annie, "I'll watch you ride it first, if you're good enough, you can go". OMG.
Following a 2 minute lesson we were good to go on our scooter with no working odometer or speedometer! But, we had helmets and £3 filled the tank, what's not to love! We went down the west coast of the island as far as Klong Khong, and we dropped in on the where else resort where Geej and Duska honeymooned. It was a fab spot with a very relaxed feel and was virtually deserted. Next we went across the island and down it's east coast to the old town. This is a working fishing village with a mainly Chinese and sea gypsy population. There were lots of cool old shop houses and a few restaurants on stills jutting out on to the water. This was the main town on Lanta until the vehicle ferry service started leaving from Ban Saladan. We ate a bit of lunch here in one of the stilted restaurants before moving on down to the southern most tip of Lanta which housed a few resort type places but mainly sea gypsy homes. We then went back up the coast through the many rubber plantations, me clinging on for dear life on the back of our little moped! We drove right to the top of the island before coming back down the west coast to Long Beach (not just a clever name!) for an hour or swimming and chilling in the sea. Back at Banana Garden, we chilled out, trying a few more cocktails from our favourite Easy Bar before packing up. We love you Lanta and will miss you loads!
