I think I'll talk about Rotorua some more in a later blog. As I'm now in Wellington, and it's crazy!
I woke up at 6.00 this morning, because Auckland public transport is RIDICULOUS, so I probably would have spent the entire morning on buses and changing buses and things, so I caught the 7.30 ferry from Gulf Harbour. Though there was a MASSIVE storm last night, so I was surprised it was still going! But the crossing was fairly smooth, and I was there before half 8. So I had a pot of tea at the Britomart Building. Which is very lovely! And then caught the shuttle bus to the airport. And was there like 2 and a half hours before my flight!
The airport was REALLY busy because lots of flights to Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown had been cancelled, or were about to be cancelled etc. Which meant there was lots going on! But I didn't see anybody getting angry which was good! I just hung about the airport for Ages, drinking lots of tea, and therefore going to the Ladies lots!
So anyway, I got on the flight, and there was this girl's college/school that was surrounding where I was sitting. And they were American, or had a Ridiculous amount of Americans at this school! They were on this flight because their flight this morning had got ten minutes in the air before getting hit by lightening, so it turned back, and they were put on this flight.
Which was supposed to be an hour long. Not much should happen in an hour right? Surprisingly it does. It was one of these new snazzy Air NZ planes, that had dropdown tvs, and free snacks and water and things (which is a bit crazy) but good. So these girls were being incessantly ridiculous and annoying for the entire flight, which just got worse when we had quite bad turbulence. And also when we saw snow. OH MY GOD SNOW!!! SNOW!! THERE'S SNOW!!! I don't think they'd seen snow before. I can't quite believe their reactions were that of sane people anyway.
So we were descending onto the runway, when suddenly we shot upwards, and had lots of turbulence and things. Pilot decided he couldn't make it. There was a LOT of snow, and wind, and ridiculous so probably a good idea he did. Anyway, so after a turn about, with lots of turbulence, we made it onto the runway. There were LOTS of people looking a little green. Though I was fine actually! I quite like turbulence.
So the flight into Wellington was rather crazy really overall! The picture accompanying the blog doesn't really look anything like Wellington. At the moment anyway.
I got the shuttle from the airport to the town (we went into the suburbs a bit and it was snow flurries everywhere!)
When I arrived at the backpackers where I'm staying, I realised I hadn't brought a towel, but they gave me one, and I was like can I go anywhere? And they looked at me like I was crazy. So I hope I DO get to do things this week! I might go see if I can do this tour thing tomorrow that I was going to. Hopeuflly it will still be running! Though it's a bit expensive if it's going to be a bit rubbish!
So, that's basically one day. And it's only 5.00! It looks like the weather this week won't improve until Monday, which is when I'm leaving...typical! Can't believe I've only got a week left, and it's all going to be spent in Wellington! (And on a train)
I've definitely changed my view on some things while I've been out here. It might be interesting going back to uni after this!
