A bit of blogging before bed? Yeaaahhh... Why not.
I am having to think about what I've actually done since my last blog, even though it was only a few days ago! I think my last entry was Thursday, but I can't really remember what I did Friday. If I'm remembering correctly, I went into Auckland again! And this time went to both the Central Library And the Uni Library! So many libraries. I spent a fair amount of time there, doing things, writing things, felt quite good to be using my brain to be honest!
Though I was supposed to meet Sarah at the Ferry Terminal at half 4, and about twenty past 4 I packed up from the Uni Library (at the top of the hill) and had to figure out the quickest route down the hill and onto Queens Street and to the Ferry Port! Luckily, my ingrained sense of direction helped me out and HUZZAH I made it only 5 minutes late! (interesting story right?)
So on Friday night we went for dinner at the Lodge's friends' house. It was rather lovely, and they have two very cute dogs! On Saturday me and Sarah decided that we would get out and do something, so we went to the thermal pools at Waiwera. Which was lovely! Outside pools in Winter, not done that before! :D It was very relaxing but sadly, smelt like volcano as the water is heated by the rocks and the piped into the pools. But oh well! I had yet another shower when we got back to Sarah's, so it's all good. Volcano no more!
Saturday night we had a games night with Sarah's housemates and a couple of their friends. It was really fun, and they're such easy people to get along with. The Kiwis were all from the South Island, 3 from near Christchurch and were telling stories about various things. One of the girls (who I won Cranium with! (YES!)) and her husband moved to Auckland a week before the earthquake hit in February. It's a bit astouding to think of that.
I would really like to visit places around Christchurch, but they're still having aftershocks, and the centre of town is unrecognisable. Sarah's flatmate Anna works for the big newspaper and she went back after the earthquake for them and some of the things she said were heartbreaking. It's hard to imagine unless you were there.
And in contrast to that seriousness, on Sunday it was a beautiful day, so we took the Lodge's motorboat (speedboat? Somethingboat) out onto the water from Stanmore Bay. Shorts and a fleece in the middle of winter! And I was allowed to take control of the boat! HA! :D (But dudes, I'm totally amazing at it yeah)
We found a Gatrillion terns and some gannets as well. Gannets are AMAZING when they dive. So we sat in the middle of this catching session for a long time, trying to find penguins. And we had just given up, and KAPOW! there was a penguin!!! It was awesome. It didn't stay around long, but it was still beautiful just to see it for a short time.
It then started to get a bit cold (clouds drew in) so we decided to go to shore, where I got hit by the engine (massive bruise on leg) and saw a starfish! :) So all in all, an amazing experience. It was so nice just to be in the middle of the land. Facing away from all the building on the coast, in the middle of calm waters. Just what you want from an experience of New Zealand.
