So we thought this little story deserved an entry of it's own....
The story starts innocently enough with a fish soup and Rhian happily stripping every last morsel from the skeleton. The odd casual remark - 'fish bones are an excellent source of calcium you know' and before you know it this innocuous meal is over.
There is a little tickle in the throat and you think - that's a little annoying - maybe I swallowed a bone, lets see if I can wash it down.
Then you consume a number of dry rice and bread meals to dislodge the bone and one day think BINGO i've got it. A couple of days later though there is a nagging scratch in your throat and your useless husband can't seem to see it. Maybe I should go get it checked out. Nowhere in Cambodia can help you so you wait until Bangkok.
A quick internet search reveals a luxury private hospital not 10 minutes walk from your hostel so off you go to have it checked out.
Only then, after various x-rays, 3 doctors and a CT scan do you realise the bone wasn't happy in the throat anymore and decided to emigrate into your neck.
Oh dear!!
Now you need an operation, general anaesthetic too. Better put on a brave face (much braver than when flying in a plane for example).
After 3 hours under the knife the UFO (unidentified foreign object) is located and you have a 5cm scar in your neck to show for your bravery.
Time to put your feet up and rest in this luxury that we can only hope the insurance company will cough up for. How a 50p lunch turned into an £8k medical bill noone will quite understand.
You feel much better though and get a 24 hour nurse-husband to take care of you. At least you better do after the pansy nearly fainted and ended up on a hospital bed himself instead of helping you come round.
Straight away you are eating and drinking liquids again and are under enforced down time.
Good job you're about to hit the beaches.
27th August: Have arrive at the beaches for some R+R, doing just fine, to see ENT again in a week :) More concerned I have mentally scarred the nurse-husband!

Lou Oh my cod, you must be choking! ( I mean joking). What a fishy tail. But in all seriousness, that sounds like a massive pain in the neck plus an £8k bill must be hard to swallow. Glad to you're on the mend. Have a souper time at the beach relaxing with Pansy. Lots of love Lou n Rich xx
Chilliams OMC are you sure it was a fish bone, it's flippin massive! must have caused some serious gouging to swim into your neck!!! Anyway, I'm soooo glad you've tracked down a nice place to have your surgery, not one to be done on the back streets of a Thai city. Get well soon little red slug and maybe stick to the sprite diet for a little while :-) Lots of love and hugs xxx
Lesley Ellis OMG when I received the text from your Mum (Rhian) I could not believe you'd had your throat cut open, so glad you are now on the mend.!! Poor ole pansy my heart goes out to you Dan. A very Happy 3rd Wedding Anniversary for yesterday. Kris is in Bangkok and really enjoying himself. Much love to you both. XXX
