We left you in Cairns and have now had 10 days in the South East corner of Aus. We hit the Great Ocean Road, had Christmas in Melbourne, watched the Poms getting smashed at the cricket, drove the scenic route to Sydney, and last night saw the New Year in Aussie Style.
We'd heard much scare mongering of the incredible heat, the cockroaches, the huge overcrowding at New year, but are pleased to report all are (so far!) unfounded! Its been a lovely mid 20s (no Hiles sunburn even!), no creepycrawlies anywhere, and last night we wandered into a park in the city centre mins from our flat and had an awesome view of the fireworks.
Christmas was also a fabulous event. We rented a flat from a gay couple who owned the hair salon on the ground floor. It was a pretty wacky place, with all sorts on the walls and bookshelves(!), but this didn't put mum off a full turkey christmas lunch with all the trimmings. Served no less than on a big table in the salon! Santa even visited (see pics) and took us to the beach on the day to catch some rays.
Boxing Day saw one of Dan's most anticipated days of the whole trip - the Boxing Day test - and despite the awful England cricket show I am assured the event lived up to expectations. Catching up with some old friends also served to make a great day although the proximity to the Barmy Army and their singing left him blushing a little in front of his Belle Mere!
Sydney is our last stop with ma and pa and at the weekend we head up the east coast and they head back to Blighty.
