Jet lag took its toll and I was awake very early. Watched premiership football at 7am live and then decided that I had time to check out Venice beach. Could have spent the day there people watching. All kinds of weird and wonderful people- hippes, dog walkers, joggers, scare boarders, roller skaters not to mention the Jews in the synagogue !!!!
Then drove an hour and a half south to my new motel. Saddleback has 2 services on a Saturday 4.30 and 6.30. Decided that due to jet lag the 4.30 one would be better and I may stay awake. Got there early - amazing place on a scale that is hard to imagine. Place was empty when I got there and I wasn't really expecting a lot at that time. Come 4.30 the main sanctuary was packed with 3,500 people!!! Unbelievable ! One of Rick Warrens friends spoke about suffering and loss as his son had been killed in a car crash 4 years ago. Spoke about how to help others and the amazing presence of God with us even in the rubbish of life. Very moving. Rick Warren then did a video message to the congregation thanking them for their support. I then went to something to eat before getting an early night. A truly great day.

Karen Sounds great billy,so good to see the wider church in action. I have difficulty in imagining how a church that size works but in obviously does. Glad you had a better day and that you are finding you way around LA .Everything is fine here apart form me wishing I was with you. take care and enjoy. Loved the synagogue on the beach, how clever to rake the church to the people. I wonder if there is a dress code or if beachwear is ok. love you xxxx
