Our flight into Alice Springs took three hours and we landed at 11.20am and saw Ben waiting for us at the gates - a wonderful moment. We hadn't seen him for about eighteen months so it was great to be with him again.
We really didn't know what to expect of Alice and our first impression was of a small but modern airport and a good road into town. Ben and Lauren's house is lovely, very roomy and cool (so important as temperatures are in the high 30's).
Ben took us into town which is traffic free and has all the large stores and supermarkets you could wish for as well as pretty cafes and restaurants. We also stopped at the local butchers where the choice and quality rival those of Frank Parkers. Kangaroo steaks for dinner cooked on the BBQ, delicious.
Yesterday Ben and Lauren drove us just a few miles outside Alice Springs to the waterhole in the picture of this blog and as you can see we took our shoes off for a paddle, very cooling. We hadn't expected Alice to be surrounded by mountain ranges, these are green at the moment due to recent rains and makes the area so pretty. Ben and Dave took Bens off road motorbike out for a spin In the afternoon and Dave came back glowing.
Last night we went out for dinner to a very swish five star hotel, another surprise and we had the best steak dinner of our trip.
It's fantastic to be spending time with Ben and Lauren and we are enjoying every moment.
