We left Auckland to fly to Perth with a quick change of aircraft in Melbourne. We had one hour forty minutes between our flight landing and the second one taking off. You can imagine our concerns when our flight from Auckland left one hour late, luckily the pilot made some time up and we made our connection with 30 minutes to spare.
We finally arrived at Stan and Annie's beautiful apartment at 10.30pm for a couple of glasses of wine and a catch up. After a great nights sleep we were raring to go in the morning, we are very lucky not to suffer from jet lag, we just put our watches to local time and adjust our eating and sleeping immediately - seems to work for us.
Annie and Stan had organised the Perth version of an Oyster card for us and walked with us down to the ferry which takes about seven minutes to cross from South Perth directly into the city. What a lovely trip to work they have each morning. Perth really does have the public transport system cracked with four bus routes circling the city constantly and all free to commuters. We used them to get about and see the sights. We also took the opportunity to do just a little shopping to replace things which had worn out - flip flops and a couple of t shirts for Dave.
We found Perth to be a sophisticated city, very clean, accessible and a delight to visit.
On Sunday Stan and Annie gave us a tour of the magnificent beaches, swimming is possible as life guards are on duty and the shark helicopter patrols the skies. A perfect day was rounded off with dinner on the shore watching the sun go down.
We had a very lazy Monday morning repacking our cases, taking a dip in the pool (shown on the cover photo of this blog) and doing a little local shopping. Birthday celebrations for Stan in the evening.
On our last full day we took a ferry to Freemantle and had a great day exploring this lovely old town. I finally gave way and bought a hat that covers the back of my neck - its just so HOT!
Annie and Stan have been such great hosts and we were so sorry to leave them, but cases packed, thankyou's given and goodbyes said we were off again.
