We jumped on the overnight train to Belgrade from Thessaloniki. Scheduled to take 13 hrs, this turned out to be 17 hours. After 5 hours standing from Athes to Thessaloniki we decided to do it in class and go 1st Serbian styles! So a two berth sleeper all the way! We were quickly into Macedonia throught the first passport check, lucky we didn't need visa's unlike the poor guys who got thrown off and sent back to Greece! Suck to be from Oz or Canada coming here, even when you don't get off the train!!! Then the hours were passed by enjoying the view out the window. Once we got into Serbia we finally managed to get some sleep, after the final passport check!

Arrived in Belgrade and found a hostel, In Old Shoes. Was a converted apartment. Rest of the day was wandering around Belgrade and checking out the citadel and main centre. We then went to Ada Ciganlija Island which is like a leisure park with a beach and entertainment and all the rest! It was pretty sweet and nice to cool off as Belgrade was about 35 degrees and we were missing the beach! Caught the bus there and back and hte bus drivers didn't have a clue what we were after and managed to get free bus rides there and back! Found the english was a bit less recognised than other parts of Europe and our Serbian wasn't the sharpest! But managed to get by! Found a really nice restaurant that evening that did traditional grub, I had a lamb & potato stew, was nice to eat out after cooking all our own food most of the time!
Next day after seeing the sights of Belgrade (not a huge amount to see) we got on the 10am train headed for Bar, Montenegro, the trip was about 9 hours, it was really scenic when we weren't inside tunnels! Trying to play chess or cards on the train was impossible with no light in our cabin! Finally arrived in Bar about 2 hours late!!
