Satin Shoes Go Camping
So we watched England make life look difficult, and headed off enroute to Cusco - we knew we'd have to break our journey somewhere random. Didn't quite realise it would be as random as camping by the side of a road to nowhere. In the freezing (literally) cold. At 4300 metres. We were up and out of there by 5:30 am, but it was quite an event...lots of people struck down with nasty altitude sickness but I was fine, apart from a 10 second jog knackering you out utterly (Inca Trail should be fun then...). Was quite unbelievably cold - we were on a really open plain...Am very annoyed have lost my camera (explanation below...am a muppet) because had amazing pics of the full moon and the crazy purple sky around it...beautiful, as was the sunrise the next morning.
So finally got into Cusco, which is a lovely, unspoiled city, yesterday evening and headed straight out to the Irish pub (mais oui) for happy hour g&t's (tres dangereuse) and a full-on game of 21's (freezemaster, adherence to international rules and everything). Headed on to a club ominously titled Mythology (as cheesy as it sounds) and danced like a loon, pulled a random (no recollection) and was sick behind a speaker. Watched Jan have a Zoolander stylee dance-off with another gringo and decided had to take myself home...got out of the taxi at the door of the hotel and walked off the wrong way, woke up this morning in my clothes, feeling decidedly werr and sans camera (DOH!). Feel like such a fool but had a quality night: have decided that no one acts their age when travelling. Ordered a massive full English for brekkie and couldn't eat it...boo.
So - off trekking on the trail tomorrow - we shall see how my total lack of exercise for the best part of a year affects me now! Glad seem to be OK at altitude though - it's definitely not fun if you're not.
Trailing off to report my camera now (*sniff*), have been watching football all day from my bed. Keep the mails coming,
lots of love,
Reikop, aged 15 1/2
