Colleen & Tom's Explorations
So this mornings alarm was set at 3.45am, so that we could be shaved, showered and shampooed by 4.30am with our bags outside the door, and ready for breakfast! Pickup in the lobby was 5am. We got to the airport and I think we were the first people processed! Ron from Maroochydore had to have his carryon luggage weighed, Rod and Kay had big problems with weight limits - they'd done a fair bit of travelling before picking up our tour. We were lucky. We had a one hour flight from Cuzco to Lima, and then a four hour wait for our next flight to Iguazu Falls. This was only a four hour flight but we also lost 2 hours of our day. LAN airlines were awful - the flight stewards were slapdash and not methodical in handing out drinks. This does not bode well for our trip home. When we arrived at Iguassu Falls airport there was some problem with Tom's passport - something about another person with a name like his??? There were only two immigration people processing the whole plane - about 280 people. Reminiscent of Tahiti - the three members of our group who were through first corralled all of the suitcases for everyone. We are travelling with such nice people. We were met by the local guide Alete - she will be with us for the next couple of days. Were taken on a 25 minute drive out to our hotel. My parents stayed here back in 1976 and I think it's changed somewhat! It's now run by the company originally called Venice-Simplon Orient Express but now called Belmond, and it is very nice. We even have one of the rare balconies. It is so nice to be back int the land of plentiful oxygen and not taking those tablets anymore!
