ok part 2 of the epic road tripppp! I miss that special bus I tell ya, espeically after a recent trip to orlando from Miami on the lamest bus in the world!
anyway! I think I left off in Memphis where I forgot to mention that me Steph, Karen and Cathy decided to accept a lift from a random hill billy couple that saved us from scary beggers.... and then we got in the van and there was a matress in the back... Cathy whispers to me 'Is this safe?' clearly we are all thinking this couple are gonna drive off down route 66 with us in the back on a matress covered in dog hair ewwww. but it turns out they were just nice and wanted to drive us away from the scary man! 'Y'all have a nice day now wont cha!' we will hilly billy lady... we will.
New Orleans was next on our list and it was soooo much fun, the city is preparing for Mardi Gras so there is loads of sparkly things everywhere which is what I like to see! Our accomodation was really good there us girlies had a massive apartment to ourselves most of us had a double bed if not a room to ourselves... good times! That night we went to try some traditional cajun food as it's what that part of America is known for, we went to the famous Gumbo Shop where we ate... Gumbo! Which is like a kind of soup I would say?? Anyway it wasnt the nicest of meals but I feel my lemon and lime frozen daquari made up for it... and the next one! After that a few of us headed to jazz bar for some live music (a regular occurance on trek) had a few drinks there which were obviously really strong because as soon as Thea, Cathy and I hit the air we were very tipsy! We went to meet the others in a club called Fat Cats and it was such a good night! I was laughing because the aussies had never heard the cha cha slide (i hate it) they loved it and were listening so carefully to the instructions, I have a video i will know doubt upload to shame them all on facebook! We kept buying each other shots from these girls that were walking around with test tube shots but then they would force you to take the shot from test tube being in their mouth... or cleavage if u were a boy... james loved it! Anyway was a top night and lots of dancing had by all! The real fun was just about to start as Anna, Cathy, Thea, Steph and I discovered the cheesy puffs had been left out on the kitchen table.... this is the biggest tub of crips you have ever seen in your life and had already become a legend on our trip as we obviously had to do our southpark impressions of Cartman's chessy poofs song! 'Without cheesy poofs the world would be.... lameee' well we ate close to a few litres of cheesy puffs! We have some good pics of lots of orange stained fingers and mouths! Thea was dancing about the apartment trying to brush everyones teeth for them and all sorts, apparently I was rude to the taxi driver... me? Well he did try and rip us off! We had a free day the next day so we slept in a bit yay and then me and Thea were feeling to rough to join the others on the boat tour so we walked around the french quarter and we had such a good day, it was our first sunny day on Trek and the french quarter is so beautiful I fell in love with New Orleans! That night I went on a ghost tour with some of the others and our tour leader Randy was such a character, he was telling us creepy stories that actually happened rather than 'ghost' stories all that happened in New Orleans so we got loads of history from this tour actually! There are some scary people that I intend to google when I get home. New Orleans is famous for loads of Voo Doo shops and we heard some stories about the lady that brought to Voo Doo to New Orleans too. We finished off the evening in the famous french cafe and had their legendary doughnuts (cant remember the name) and hot chocolate then strolled home to find Thea asleep on the sofa because she was scared she would run into the mouse we had found in our room earlier that day (bad times). On the drive away from New Orleans we drove though some of the devestation of Hurricane Katrina and it was very sad as it's still in a state although I cannot imagine how bad it must have been at the time judging by the horrible bits we saw on the news. The thing is the people are so poor and that area and its such a ghetto that no one really helped them. We pulled in for some gas at a petrol station near by and it was a ghetto big time very scary we werent allowed out the van! We seem to have a habit of being somewhere totally normal then going down one wrong turn and being in a ghetoo (promting more Cartman impressions of him singing 'in the ghetoooooooo' in his amazingly high voice).
Next Stop was Layfayette which is a bit of a sore point with out group as it was pretty much lame and I had to pee outside of our (cold) cabin (the shame) the toilets were a scary distance away in a dark camp site lol.. thats my story and Im sticking to it! That night we went out for some Cajun food and to listen to swamp-rock music.... apparently french cajun people lived in swamps and were quite musical - anyway we waited about an hour for our food which was cold so we moaned and then our tour leader got embarrsed of us I think he he. We drove back and went to bed and that was the end of Lafayette :)
Next we went to Austin Texas yee ha! We got there about 5pm so Steph, Cathy and me went for a walk around the massive pretty lake around our hostel and climbed a tree as you do :p then we all drove to a bridge where about a million bats were supposed to fly our and amaze us all... we waited... and waited... and then realised the bats weren't coming out to play tonight! So we headed on for some dinner, it was a place we were told by one of Eric's friends we could obtain burgers the size of our face... cos you know we hadnt had enough burgers by this point... so this place was a scary goth bar and the waitress was weird but we ate a burger the size of our face indeed! We only got this night in Austin which was a bit annoying because we had to be up early the next day, it seems like it was brilliant night life. Oh and the only other thing that was memorable about this night is that a biker man walked past me and I think he may have been 7 foot tall! I was dissapointed not to see many cow boy hats.. other than Steph's which she still hadnt taken off since Nashville... mine and Thea's had already been ditched to the trailor attached to the van!
Next we drove to Carsbad Caverns which is basically a huge cave in a national park, I am ashamed to say I was the height of uncultured on this day and power walked through the cave with Thea... mostly because I've never been one of those people that can stare at a piece of rock/cave longer than about 5 seconds and secondly because it looked alot like a cave I saw in Vietnam... but it was cool from what I saw... not cool enough to take an hour and half to walk round it like some.... Eric & co :p better than Karen though who didnt even make it in haha. That night we went out for dinner in a little town near our camp site and we had a chinese buffet I dont think I have ever seen such excitement than what James showed that day :) it was only ten dollars I think that was the highlight along with the unlimited ice cream that me and Thea abused! We all had food babies that day! After that we hung out in our cabin for a bit playing a very funny game of 'would you **** *** a monkey for a million quid' or 'Would you kill a kitten for one thousand pounds' and such things I wont name names at who came up with what question YOU ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE! But it was funny and I laughed alot that night and learned alot about what some of my trekkers are willing to do for cash... eh Luci... watch out puppies!
Our next stop was a place called Taos where we could ski and stuff if we wanted too, on the way we stopped off at Sante Fe which is a really old mexican style town where we saw loads of old mexican influenced buildings etc was very wild west! I brought a nice native made ring :) we got to Taos a couple of hours later and it was soooo pretty with snow everywhere and big mountains. Me and Jenny had breakfast in the little town we stayed in and then went up to the ski resort to meet up with the others who had gone up earlier (our compleatley stoned receptionist at the hostel told us to hitch hike up there - we took the bus!) and I had a nice baylieys and thats about it haha, then we drove back down and just all had a night in at the hostel of some girly talk and then me, James, Anna, Cathy, Rhydian and Corn played pictionary and I am happy to say that my awful pic of Cleopatra won my team the game woooo! Wild!
We drove on to Monument Valley which was great and a big high light of the trip, we got a navijo tour around the valley and I asked some apparently 'inappropriate questions' hehe, I just wanted to know if they really had Indian Chiefs that wore feathers and if they said 'how!' but all i got was the mick taken out of me by the whole group hehehe and then I proceeded to ask him if there are any famous Navijos! We asked him more questions but our guide was getting on a bit bless him and just rambled off talking about something other than our questions and then just stopped (usually mid sentance!). We learned what all the rock formations were meant to be etc, and then we got to lay down on these hug rocks and listen to them play us some music which was actually really nice and I think me and Rydian have a good impersonation going on they better watch out! We then got food made for us in there tradition hut type things I really cant remember what there called I think its hygon or something, but the food was yummy! We stayed in a motel that night and we all had TV!!! Excitement! Jenny, Thea and I watched save the last dance and then sex and the city - what a great treat for me yay!
Next we drove on to the Grand Canyon and to quote Cathy 'what a load of s***' just kidding but we were kinda over it after an hour and decided to do a 'trek' which consisted of us walking about 5 mins and then having a break haha we thought we had been gone about an hour and we were gone like 3... far too much work for one day we decided to hit the resorts cocktail bar while we wait for the others to finish their helicopter tour - I had done that with my mum and dad when I was 16 so I think it was perfectly acceptable for me to hit the bar instead :p we had actually been in the bar with Karen before her flight and our trek and taken over the juke box... Celine anyone? Karen then wanted to stay with us after her second wine but she got on the helicopter after all good lass! After the other guys came back to meet us all Eric had come up with a genius idea of going to Vegas a night early.... not because he wanted to watch the superbowl or anything :P - anyway I was up for it cos I knew it would be class! We had the drive to Flagstaff where our hostel was to think about it anyway (we were due to stay there two nights). Flagstaff was actually a really funny night and we all went for thai food, never order spice level 3 our of 5 in that resturant if u happen to be there!! Evil evil amount of spice! Still I think I made Rhydian laugh quite alot with my suffering! Me, Karen, Luci, Cathy, Eric and Anna then decided to hit the town... we went into a bar playing rnb and hip hop and I think Eric's ears started bleeding so he literally disappeared bless him, we were like the only females in there so we decided to terrorize the dj with inappropriate requests in a hip hop bar such as whitney houston, celine dion, elvis... you catch my drift! Karen actually ended up behind the DJ booth for the best part of the night! But we show cased some hot moves on that stage, we were all in trainers etc so I felt majorly rough! This random vietnamese lady came to dance with us though so shout out to her! After Karen had decided 'his not that hot up close' (We previously all rated the DJ as good looking) we left and went to bar down the road (and stopped to play limbo under the train track bars), we were aiming for an Irish bar we had been told to go to but we got distracted by some hot locals that were in the window of this one! So we stroll in and who is there... Eric! So we all sabbotagged his quiet drink and sat with him, after us all perving on the band (the base guy was cute) we went our seperate ways and me and luci ran home im not really sure why?! I think luci needed a wee! The next day we headed Vegas bound baby!!!!
Vegas... where do I begin... you know what I really dont know I think I need to save this for a fresh blog entry! xx
