Hello all!
My first stop in USA was Hawaii! Was so weird to leave Australia after two months because I had an Oz phone got really used to the money and stuff (totally forgotten the value of a pound ha ha) was really sad saying bye to people in oz but so many great memories and friends to keep in touch with.
Hawaii was just a quick stop over really before New York where I would be meeting my parents for a holiday. I was there 3 nights so stayed in Honolulu and didnt go to other islands (would love to do some more islands one day they sound great) the resort I stayed in is Wakiki. My hostel was really nice it had a kitchen and balcony (more about the balcony later lol) and a couple of interesting roomates (more about them later too).
The first night I went out with the girls in my dorm we were all about the same age, Hilde and Ide from Norway, Maria who was french candian and Mia who was Canadian. We went for dinner and a couple of cocktails and had a stroll down the Wakiki beach strip, it was a good laugh. The next day I went to the beach for a bit but it was cloudy so I had a catch up day and basically had to wash the whole contents of my back pack (a mammoth task!) the washing machine broke and left my clothes soaked and they were still wet even after the dryer had then in for an hour lol so I put them out on the balcony... this would later come back to haunt me.
I havent mentioned my other room mates yet... there was Mary from Essex who is 61 and an absolute legend! She will kill me for making her age public cos she only told me when I checked out! She's travelled all over the world and is making her way back to England soon to suduce a life long friend after all this time! I wont say his name you never know who can log on! The other roomates where these two girls from Alaska (i still to this day am not sure of their names) but jesus were they annoying.... it was an aunt and niece the aunt was in her 40s and told us about her colourful past... i wont go into it anyway but basically she was the biggest busy body ever and kept bossing me about touching my stuff wanting to know everything all the bloody time! I couldnt even put anything down without her asking me 'are u done with that SWEEEETIEEEE' yes can I just take a breathe before I put it away bloody hell... it doesnt sound that bad but I'd rather tell the comical stories to you face to face rather than moan away on here he he. They were characters to say the least... I also had a really disturbing plane journey from Oz too Hawaii... some of you know the story and its too tramatising to write it here hahah lets just say it involves a 59 year old mental play boy.... another story to tell u when I'm home!
Anyway I'm waffling again, the second night I had a few drinks with Mary and Mia -Mary is even more of legend when given a couple of vinos! We got chatting to Japanese guy called Tado who proudly annouced that he won't get married till his 40 and then it will be with a 18 year old girl... nice! He had a mild obession with Johnny Depp too... and very long hair! 'Like Johnny!' no... tado! He was cool though.
The next day I went to Pearl Harbour and it was sooo sad but amazing to see it all and pay your respects, none of those guys would want to be forgotten and they certainly havent. It's still the biggest army/navy tragedy that USA have ever experienced and you can tell the scars are still there. I did an Audio tour and heard all about the 6 ships that were out on the harbour that day, the one that got the most damage is still under the sea and it's now a tomb with a memorial built over it because there are so many undiscovered bodies they could not pull out the thing that makes it even sader is that one of the ships had people trapped inside banging on the metal for help on the day of the attack and a ship that had come out to rescue them had to go back because they had no equipment to get them out simply forgot in the mentalness of the day to go back... two weeks later they remembered obviously no one was still alive... that really shocked me and I never heard that before. The USS Arizona is the ship that you walk over in the memorial and its really spooky cos you can see the ship wreck and you just know how many guys are in there still. The Japanese attacked in a war over oil... and the ship still leaks oil that you can see clearly to this day which is ironic and said to be the tears of the men the lay in the ship. Now when suvivors that served on that ship die some of them place there ashes in the ship, a diver goes into the ship to place them there. Hundreds of people visit Pearl Harbour every day it just shows how many people still care and think about what happened. Anyway this is all getting a bit morbid lets move on!
The rest of the tour was all around Honolulu and I saw the palace and a few other things, it was nice to see the rest of the city. Obama is from there :) after my tour I met up with Ripton who was in Hawaii visiting his girlfriend! Im starting to think how weird it is that its such a small world!! I mean I feel like i see someone from home every couple of weeks now haha. Was really good to catch up!
That night I went to watch some hula dancing on the beach but it wasnt on because it was sunday and I pouted a bit cos I really wanted to see some - gutted! I went back to the hostel in a huff but then I ended up drinking with most of the hostel downstairs then we went to the beach after and Hilde and Ide met us (they had already checked out on the first night to start school in hawaii) and we had a great night. Me and Mia were a bit tipsy and ended up throwing cookies into a vase off of our balcony - we didnt manage to get any in though damm it!
The next day I was checking out no more Alaskan people nagging me yay!
Oh yeah... regarding the balcony... my clothes fell onto a torch and set alight!!!!! I caused a fire when I was out and a massive hole burned in my shorts... and who discovered it none over than the Alaskan lady damm it! I got told off by her big time! Luckily there were loads of people around and it didnt cause any damage... other than my shorts!
next... to NYC! xx
