The entire clan was up at 5am after all of us hit the pillows the night before by 6pm. Wilder was awake between 9:30p and 12:30a, which was NOT my favorite. But today he's taken his naps on schedule. He's actually done much better with transition than I was prepared for.
We had a delicious breakfast at the hotel consisting of Vietnamese sticky rice, spring rolls, seafood fried rice, a mango pancake, and they also made Wilder a side of scrambled eggs. The sticky rice was crazy good - nothing like anything I've had in the U.S. It had corn and fried green onion in it. Killer.
After Wilder's morning nap, we set off to explore and grab some lunch. Walking the tight streets and dodging the motorbikes, taxi cabs, and gondolas. After perusing the shops, we stop off at Hoam Kiem Lake for a bit. A bit smaller than Greenlake, it is a popular place to walk off your lunch. Oh, and, unlike Greenlake, this lake is literally green.
We grab lunch and continue to shop. The papaya salad was amazing. I ordered grilled pork and vermicelli thinking I'd get something similar to what I would receive in the states. I get grilled pork meatballs in a small bowl of broth, and cold vermicelli noodles on the side. Not exactly what I was expecting, but it was really, really good. Wilder can vouch for this also since he ate half of my noodles after I dunked them in the broth. It was quite possibly the best meatball I've ever had (don't tell Georgia). The girls both got their first coconuts. Rory loved hers drinking it all quickly. Georgia….seemed to prefer the novelty of it to the actual water inside.
