We were supposed to leave New York on the 28th at 9:40 but did not leave until 1:00 a.m. - 3 hours late. Long night of waiting. Of course I did not sleep on plane - six hour flight and when we arrived at Dublin. We had to rush to get to next flight to Edinburgh. Arrived at about 4:00 Scottish time - five hour time difference. Tired but decided to go out and explore. Went to the Hay Market and had fish and chips last night in a pub and drank a Guinness. Very good beer - you know me I don't drink beer but when in Scotland, do as the Scottish do.
Had a problem with luggage - strange, strange story - will explain when I get home. To say the least, the people at the college won't forget me.
Checked in hotel and then walked to Edinburgh Castle which is in the center of the city on the highest part. Beautiful scenery - very old - 12th Century. Edinburgh was very lucky that they did not receive much damage during the war - they were more literature oriented and not as economically developed so the Germans were not as interested in bombing this area.
I am presently at Stevenson College - Atended a Scotland lecture on the history and also on the culture of Scotland this moning. Will be having a tour this afternoon.
