Ahhhh....I've been trying to upload pictures from San Juan and it is impossible. I think its a combination of the slow internet and the limitations on the computers in the lab on ship. I really would love to share my photograhs with you all....not that I'm a great photograher or anything but still. I'll keep trying.
Puerto Rico has been great so far and I've had the chance to do a lot of cool things but I think after tomorrow, we'll all be ready to move on...we've got a whole world to see! The Bioluminescent Bay trip last night was awesome! We drove about an hour and half to somewhere and they dropped us off on a beach, gave us a glow bracelet, a life jacket and a kayak. Leigh Ellen and I were in the kayak together and we didn't do so well...LOL. First you have to kayak out and across the bay and then into the mangroves, which is a narrow canal with these trees and plans that grow up the banks and over the top so at night its bascially a pitch black tunnel. We were supposed to follow the glow bracelet of the kayakers in front of us but easier said than done. After about a 25 min. paddle though the dark mangroves, it opens up into a lagoon that is just spectacular. The stars were out it was really dark but you could see the silhouettes of the palms surrounding the lagoon and the water really does glow as you paddle through it from the little microorganisms emitting light. You can put your hands and feet in and watch the water glow around you. No pictures....sorry! Everything that went with us in the kayaks got wet so all cameras stayed behind and apparently it can't be photographed...just experienced. I would reccomend it! After we got back to the ship, I had the pleausre of being able to relax and talk with my parents and Andrew becuase while in Puerto Rico, I am IN with my Verizon cell phone. I'm going to miss being able to talk to you!
Today, I woke up nice and early to go on the El Yunque Rainforest Hike. Its the only tropical rainforest in the United States National Park system. It was really nice to be up on the mountain and walking through the lush tropical trees and waterfalls. The views were beautiful.
Tonight, after enjoying some quiet time out on the deck talking to Andrew and our excursion to K-Mart that was a little disappointing, Marsh Allen and I set out in search of a beach but ended up just exploring and walking all around the old city for like 2 hours. Alot of walking today!
Tomorrow the plan is to actually find the beach, go to the Bacardi Rum Factory for a tour and we set sail at 2300 for Salvador, Brazil.
