Canal boats cruising effortlessly along the quiet narrow canals. All shapes and sizes, all colours but mostly greens and blues. No pinks! Decorated with flower pots and ornamental paintings. Care taken with the selection of curtains and table cloths. Flowers neatley arrange on tables. Owners scurrying to operate the locks. One lady with a small folding bicycle pedals ahead ready for the coming boat - her boat.

A canal tunnel dark as night and then some. Does it turn or is there no end? The boats push through without lights.

An old abandoned rail tunnel through which the cycle path follows. Dark even with lights but not too long the end cant be see. Uneven and muddy. Slippery.

A small tunnel under a raised canal. Intended for cattle the arched roof is low, the walls close togehter. The narrow tunnel is not long but dark enough. Rought uneven and slippery under foot makes riding it difficult. The walls get rubbed.

Fields and livestock. The usual farmland but under a blanket of grey cloud. Quiet, desolate and then a cottage or homestead.

Forest trails and wooded paths. Cooler than the open air. Teaming with birds and noises of wildlife. Rabbits not bothered by the passing cycle - quiet and smooth.

Overpasses over motorways of roaring traffic. Car after car, truck after bus. Speeding , in a hurry, frantically juggling for a position. Where are they all going at half past four in the morning. Is it the same people returning late in the evening?

Newstead Abby set on immaculate grounds of lush green grassy fields with a picturesque woodland backdrop. Situated in a slight valley it overlooks its own private pond as large as a lake. Tranquil and calming a place where 'nice' people are happy to take their time sharing an experience and talking.

Sherwood forest. Dense and dark. Thick with undergrowth impassable by foot, especially wearing shorts. Winding paths leading off in all directions. Quiet, still. Not a sound at times. Then the slightest breeze rustles the leaves. A whistle of a bird.
