After The Wild Goose Pagoda, we made our way to Xi'an's City wall. Built by the Han Dynasty Emperor Liu Bang 194 BC, it is one of the oldest structures in China. It's 13 km in length and stretches all the way around the main part of the city, a bit like York. The guide told me we were walking on original bricks!
Xi'an has been the capital of China on a number of occasions because they say it has good Feng Shui.
Tall and overbearing, it has protected the inner city for centuries.
The large Bell at it's entrance is also the oldest in China. Unfortunatley I wasnt able to make it ring - they've removed the hammer!
Views were brilliant from this vantage point and we could see the busy city below us and the traffic barging each other out of the way as is the normal way in these Chinese city's it seems.
After the wall, Karron and I were dropped off at the Hotel. We walked in to the main high street and found a side road where we had a traditional Xi'an dinner in a local eating house. Noone their spoke any English at all but they had pictures on the menu and we just pointed at what we wanted. It was much cleaner and nicer than the eating house we tried in Beijing and I felt much more confident that the kitchen would've been ok! The meal was good, although I can't be sure what we ate. I think I had some kind of Kelp fried with onions, garlics and peppers and Karron had tofo noodles with onions and chilies. Oh, and we also found out what the Chinese sign for boiled rice in here, I'm sure that will be helpful in the future.
