It seems that we are in a country again where my being here is something of a novelty!
We have been walking the streets of Kuching today and a few glances have been aimed in my direction, Malaysian's muttering to one another in their own language and then looking at me with huge grins, and even, at one point, when we stopped for something to eat, the ladies there were taking covert pictures on their mobils phones.
Eventually, I just smiled for them, not wanting their one picture of a fair haired tourist to be runied by an intentional furrowed brow. That's the sort of guy that I am! I find it very strange to have this unexpected attention - that's not to say that I don't like it, but usually when I want attention I have to work hard for it. Here I just have to exist, not cut my hair, and people seem to flock to me! Already today I have had three conversations just on whether or not my hair is currently in a natural state, one of them refusing to believe me and insisting on a closer look!
It's all good though. It's to be expected I suppose, given that black, straight hair is the order of the day here - my blonde curly locks are definitely unique!
