We headed straight out to the coast in equador. First stop was Montanita Beach, which is a very popular stop off for backpackers and the streets are lined with juice and cocktail bars. Got a nice room a block back from the beach with a deck with a couple of hammocks on it and views of the beach for US$12 per night. Also, found the best place to have breakfast each morning, for $3 you got a fresh fruit juice, unlimited tea or coffee, a huge bowl of fresh fruit with granola and yogurt, and eggs on toast!
Had a nice chilled out couple of days, sampling a few cocktails, and hanging out at the beach. Mark hired a surfboard and had a bit of fun in the waves. Once again the weather was overcast, but still warm enough to go for a swim.
One day we walked down to the other end of the beach to see all the local fishing boats come in, and asked a local fisherman what fish we needed to make ceviche, and he gave us a few for a couple of dollars. However, turned out they weren't the fish to make cevhiche with and had so many bones we gave them to the hotel owner.
After a couple of nights we headed out to the main road to jump on a bus to take us to Porta Lopez to see if we will still in time for a bit of whale watching. Unfortunatly the season had just finished so only stayed in Porta Lopez one night then headed onto Canoa.
