It Doesn't Look Like Such A Milestone in Metric
Another beautiful beach breakfast this morning followed a bracing dip in the Med. Unfortunately, we were the dined upon as much as the diners. Midges, mozzies, flies, call them what you will (and we did, but will here spare the younger eyes), something with wings and a pointed proboscis made off with our blood and left us with unwanted welts.
R is somewhat rusty (ahem) in Italian but one phrase is becoming slick and oiled..."[phonetically] eeh roto ay radgio]" trans: "the spoke...it is broken". This is to be delivered in a hopeful voice to anyone wearing a set of oilstained overalls.
We found repairs for wheels (and more), in Civitavecchia. The town itself is a nice enough place but is clearly in the commuter belt for Rome with a direct train connection. In fact, the major cruise lines berth their behemoths here and shuttle in their daytrippers. It does however have extremely helpful and friendly residents, as we discovered.
Our broken-spoke catchphrase led us to the shop of a rugby fanatic with "beautiful parts"...for the bike, that is. If you're reading this Sharon, he played as well as watched and loves Edinburgh - we put in a good word for you. Hopefully, with a complete upgrade of all the spokes on the back wheel, R may be able to go more than 3 days without one breaking.
Day 62.1km (Total 1638.8km)
