Arrived in Bangkok at 4pm. Janes waist strap had snapped clean off of her brand new backpack when we collected it after getting off of the plane so that sucked a bit.
We decided to venture on the public transport rather than get a taxi to our hostel which Is about 20 miles from the airport. We had to first get on the City Link train for about 5 stops to Phaya Thai which cost us 45 baht which is about a quid. We then got on the Sky Train to Sala Daeng which was rammed as the schools had just closed!...literally like sardines!
The directions to the Hostel looked easy to follow on paper but the sidewalks were so busy with people and stalls that we could not see any signs or shop names to get our bearings so after asking a few locals who had no idea where the hostel was and walking round aimlessly we bit the bullet and jumped in a Tuk Tuk for 100 baht (bearing in mind the hostel was 10 metres from the Sky Train stop!). The driver assured us he knew where the hostel was bit after driving in circles for 10 mins we were starting to get a tad worried when he stopped and said we were there In a dark quiet side street! Thankfully we got him to go back and he asked another driver who laughed an pointed out that we were in fact right outside of the Hostel! What a massive relief as I was starting to think that this place didn't exist and we would have to wander round the streets to find another hostel!
We rang the bell to check in and the cleaner let us in, it didn't look like the pictures as there were boxes packed up everywhere in the reception area. The cleaner spoke as much English as we do Thai so she called up the boss and passed the phone to Jane. The lady on the phone told Jane that we had cancelled our booking! we hadn't changed or cancelled anything and had only just emailed them to confirm our arrival so this was another stressful moment lol!
She then realised it was their mistake and there was someone else staying here with the surname Foster who we actually met the next day and turned out they were on the same flight as us and the same public transport at the same time! They are also a mixed race couple too! Small world! Lol
