Well after a 3am start and 27hr plane/check -in journey we finally made it late evening into a windy Cape Town. Amaxing view of South Pole from aircraft. Despite being very tired we still managed to go to the top of Table Mountain, but apologies to walking friends as we caught the cable car to the top. Amazing views on a rare , clear and windless day. Didn`t manage to get to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated but did get a good feel of his presence from the museum and statues.Waterfront area of CT was great. Following day we made an early 5am start in the truck heading north out of South Africa towards Namibia. Met fellow travellers the previous evening and there is a good mix of nationalities which we are really pleased about. Border crossing into Namibia in 40 degree heat was not pleasant but finally we reached the orange river which spans the border. Our intended campsite had been flooded due to heavy rains further north but the replacement was good. Coping well with travel and camping. Visited the Fish River Canyon (2nd largest to Grand Canyon) and stayed for drinks/snacks on the rim until sunset. Desert is unusually green due to heavy January rains and we are seeing plenty of wildlife including zebra, ostrich, springbok, oryx, jackal.Following day we were up at 4am for drive to Dune 45 in the desert where we climbed it and waited for the sun to come up. A real life experience with bacon and eggs when we got back. Well done to Indra for the difficult climb in deep sand. Currently in Swakopmund where we are tent free for a couple of days. Heading towards Etosha in the next few days. It is absolutely great to be out of telephone contact and seeing no television. Clear unpolluted skies with millions of stars are fantastic.
