Loads of kilometeres travelled since last posting !!!. We stayed outside Etosha Park and made several game drives inside where we were lucky to see plenty of animals including cheetah, rhino, zebra , giraffe, elephant and all the antelope types. Sleeping in the open is fantastic at night as through the vents you can see most of the galaxies clearly. The sounds are also fantastic. From Etosha we made our way to Waterberg Plateau which is a fantastic rocky outcrop in the desert . After an overnight stay in Windhoek we passed through the Kalahari Desert which at this time of year was surprisingly green. The sand is up to 200 metres deep. At Ghanzi we upgraded to a thatch hut for the night which was interesting .The local bushmen gave us an excellent practical demonstration on how they live off the land. Packing and unloading the truck is now much easier and everyone works as a team; well almost. Food is surprisingly good too. Next day we made ou way to Maun for an overnight stay .Maun is the staging town for visits to the Ockavanga Delta. We took a light plane flight over the Delta from Maun and saw the scale of things in addition to animals grazing below. Next day we loaded all our camping gear first on to two speedboats and then on to mokoros which are traditional wooden canoes propelled by a standing man/woman with pole. This was real bush camping and although we all felt a little dirty as we left after two nights it was well worth it with game walks and mokoro cruises. We were all lifted by this experience and next day we had almost luxury camping at an excellent site under giant baobab trees with swimming pool and restaurant where we ate.Although it is rainy season here right now we have been lucky with the rain. Our next stop was at Chobe National Park where we made game drives and saw all the animals up close except the elusive lions. We also took a sunset cruise on the Zambezi where we could view the hippo and elephants close up from the water. Right now we are in Livingstone for 3 days and today we have been to the falls which are very impressive but due to high water volumes not very photo genic. We also got very wet despite precautions.Tomorrow Indra and I are having a microlite flight over Vic Falls
I will try to upload some photos but internet speeds are slow here so this may not be possible.
