Leaving Stonetown we headed on the long drive to Moshi. We had to camp well short of Moshi and the cloudy conditions meant we could not see Mt Kilimanjaro. Loud music during most of the night meant little sleep but also this was the worst night for mosquitoes ! The following day we made camp at Arusha the base camp for our visit to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro National Parks. Serengeti is a massive area and seven times the size of the Masai Mara reserve in Kenya. Ngorongoro is a crater formed by a now none active volcano. Up until now we had not seen any lions but in the two NPs we saw over 40 from five separate prides with young cubs, old and young males and one pride sitting around a dead wilderbeest they had killed the previous night. Highlight regarding animals was seeing a cheetah make a kill, absolutely fantastic. Returning to Arusha for our final night under canvas and celebratory party. Long bumpy road to Nairobi the following day and a welcome couple of nights in a hotel with all the facilities brought our tour to an end. We are now back in Harrogate after spending the weekend in Islington. During the 4 months we have been away we travelled over 20,000 kilometres overland, spent 43 hours in the air and countless hours in departure lounges and travelling to airports. All this was well worthwhile and all arrangements went to plan.
Many thanks to all family and friends for messages of support and to Indra for being an excellent companion. Yes we are still speaking!.
