Arrived home safe and sound. It seemed a very long trip by car! All looks the same at home, the cat was happy to see me, and one of the dogs has grown her winter coat back and she looks like a little fat lion with a grey mane, have to get into the walks. Unpacked the cases, what fun looking at the goodies we collected along the way. We really did have a great time.
We came across some funny things that made us laugh along the way, most of all the care free attitude of Italians - things happen in "italian time", forget about following time schedules, and the general rule about rules is that they are there to be broken! seeing a policeman riding a motor bike and talking on his mobile phone at the same time, 3 attendants sitting around a petrol pump smoking! We saw a person driving a car while smoking and talking on the mobile phone - talk about multi tasking:-0.. While on the autostrada we saw a sign saying "next tabacconist 300m" now that is really necessary. All women wear bikinis no matter how big or small, young or old. One thing that Rob particularly liked was beer for sale in a hospital canteen vending machine. We can't even have a soft drink vending machine. One nice thing we noticed was there are very few fast food outlets like McDonalds, they are only in the major cities, being few and far between, one can only take out Pizza in Arpino.
Anyway, back at work Tuesday, which I am looking forward too, some may think I'm mad, but I can see and feel the benefit of a long break to clear the head, and rearrange attitudes.
We had a great holiday, and I'm sure we will visit again sooner rather than later.
signing off for now - Raelene & Rob
