Just-Imagine!
Wednesday Dec 24th - We arrived at Ancona rail station to be greeted by Gino, it's nice to see a familiar face. Great to see Rita, and smell some home made cooking.
Thursday Dec 25th - Christmas Day in Italy. Liam was awake early - surprise! It was quite foggy outside which didn't lift until about 10am, not too cold about 10°C. We had a quite lunch with Rita and Gino, typical Italian meal - first course of pasta being lasagne, second course meat which was meat balls in sauce with some vegetables and bread. Then panatone bread for dessert.
In the evening Rob, Liam and I went out for a walk into the town square and for Liam to run off some energy, it's very hard for him being inside all day with the cold weather! We saw some amazing nativity scenes that must take nearly a year to set up!. Rob & I have walked the main road into the square many times before on other visits and didn't realise there were so many churches along that road. Just a large door that opens into a beautiful large Church, from the road it is hard to believe it's there. In english villiages there is a pub on every corner, in Italy there is a Church on every corner and more sometimes. Sunset is about 4.30pm now and it's dark by about 5.30pm, as we headed home there were many people out walking for the evening.
Friday Dec 26th - St Stephans day. We didn't get up until 8.30, we are getting a nice rest here which we all needed I think. The hotels are great but you do have to be up so you don't miss breakfast. Today we woke up to rain, the locals are saying the weather is more like Easter. Liam can't wait to see snow, but none down this way yet. Gino drove us to Loreto so we walk around the town Loreto. We once again saw an amazing Presipio (religious creche`) that represented a whole city, with little figures in all aspects of life and work that moved. I Always love this place and have visited 4 times now. The Basilica della Santa Casa (Basilica of the Holy House) is a Catholic place of pilgrimage in Loreto,Italy, containing, according to tradition, the house in which the Virgin Mary lived.
Again in the evening we took Liam to the play ground, he had a ball while Rob and I froze, the temperature is dropping fast, setting in for a cold night.
Saturday Dec 27th - Market day today. Each town has a day when loads of vans pull up into the main square to sell their wears. I enjoy looking around these markets, it was mostly clothes today, got myself a warm vest, think I will need it, the weather is becoming colder. No snow at this level yet, which is disappointing Liam. We could see some on the mountain tops, but it is snowing up North so it wont be long before he sees some.
We went for a stroll along Porto Recanati's beach front, a bit different to when we were here last, it was so hot Liam went swimming in he undies, and he remembers skipping stones into the water, he had another try but the sea was too rough and the wind was really chilly today. The had a quaint little nativity set up with Jesus in a boat with the comment made in reference to him also being a refugee.
Sunday Dec 28th - Rob and Liam went out for a walk around the town and said it was very chilly. We met up with Robs cousins Arturo and Rosanna today for lunch, Rosanna is a great cook so a bella Italian meal was enjoyed by all. Lovely to catch up with them also. Liam had fun playing with their 3 cats and the dog called Sally. Tempurature today only 4°C, snow is predicted tomorrow for Ancona, hopefully when we get up North Liam will get his chance to see snow. We have had a wonderful time in Recanati spending a week with family, caught up on some rest, and enjoyed nice home cooked meals and comforts. Tomorrow off up North.
