Hello everybody we have been in Buenos Aires for the last 5 days or so, although we didn´t originally plan to be here at all, too many travellers that we met on the way told us not to miss it! I'm sure it wont be the last detour we take. The city has a very European feel, with lots of museums, art galleries and coffee shops. We have visited Evita in the Cementario de la Recoleta, and though the graveyard itself is impressive - more like a small lazy city for the dead with the coffins of whole familys on display in individual marble houses with stained flass windows, poor old Evitas grave was nothing to write home about (excuse the expression as funnily enough it turns out that is exactly what I am doing at the moment) compared to many of the others. Mostly it has all been about the nightlife here which starts late and continues into the next day, we have tried out some Tango lessons and watched the locals dance their sultry Tango at a ´Milonga´, we have partied at Club 69, the biggest club in Buenos Aires where they have a show with transvestites, crazy dancing in very small costumes etc and my favourite - handing out pieces of cake to the clubbers! And of course dinner has been the focus of the day with the same big juicy cheap steaks I was talking about. We have also had our fair share of empanadas - best way to describe them is like cornish pasties. The weekend flea market in San Telmo is great to catch tango demonstrations and other street musicians and artists etc. We are leaving for Cordoba tonight on another overnight bus - they seem to be a good option in Argentina so far with wide fully-reclining seats, aircon and some meals included. Lots of love, Rae and Mark xx
