New Zealand - South Island
After arriving in Christchurch we picked up our Jucy camper van, and started making our way towards the west side of the island. To get there we began to drive on a through a national park called Arthur's Pass. The scenery was lovely but I have never driven on a more difficult road! After three and half hours I was glad to get to the end of the park. We drove to a small holiday park and stayed in our campervan that night. It was actually more comfortable than I thought, slightly cold though!
The next day we got up early and drove to Franz Josef so we could joined the day tour to climb up the glacier. It was quite a walk to get to the bottom of the glacier, but I was excited to get our crampons on and start the walk. The crampons took some getting used to at first but our climb up the glacier was amazing! We walked through ice tunnels and climbed up quite steep sections of it. By the time the walk had finished after five hours I was exhausted, but it was worth it!
Another long drive took us to Queenstown. We arrived quite late but still took time to have a quick look around the shops. The town is based around a huge lake with mountains in the background, it's definitely the nicest place we have visited in New Zealand. The next day we decided to have a day of shopping after the long drive the day before. I treated myself to some new Christmas clothes, and we had lunch in a pub by the lake - felt like ladies of leisure again.
We got up early the next day to go on a trip to Milford Sound. The coach journey took about four hours but we had a few stops on the way, one stop we visted the site where they filmed the battle of Rohan in Lord of the Rings. When we arrived in Milford we boarded the Jucy cruise, which took us around the sound. As it was the first cruise we got free wine, sunglasses and t shirts which was a bonus! The scenery in Milford was amazing, and we got to see some dolphins and seals :)
We left Queenstown the following day and took the long drive up to Christchurch to give our campervan back. As much as I loved our campervan I was looking forward to sleeping in a real bed.
New Zealand has been brilliant, and don't think I will ever see scenery like it again. The weather wasnt up to much though, so I'm happy Australia is our next destination so I can get my tan back :)
