I was in Airlie Beach for just over 1 week. The first night was great as i was able to meet up with hannah from oz intro again and we went to mcdonalds to catch up. After about a day i learnt that mcdonalds/ baskin robbins in airlie beach is farr to convenient. That night i went out for dinner with the oz experience bus to moroccos. It was a really good night- especially had fun with the irish girls niamh and caroline and a few people tried their hand at karoake! The day day i began to get into what was called the airlie beach routine.
The airle beach routine consists of- 1. get up
2. go on the internet.
3. go to the lagoon (there is a man made lagoon in airlie beach as you cant swim in tthe sea)
4. get an ice cream
5. have dinner and go to Beaches
What a life! On Sunday Adele Ellen and Sara from oz intro arrived which was great as i hadnt seen them since sydney. they had done lots- including a 2 week outback tour. We spent the next few days completing the routine and i also spent a lot of time with ebbony and daryl from the oz bus.
On the tuesday myself ellen adele and sara set off to the marina. We were going on board 'powerplay' for a 2 day cruise around the whitsunday islands! nicee. The outward journey was very rough and i worried i would be claustrtophic on baord the boat but once we got to blue pearl bay i realised just how amazing the next 2 days would be.
I had decided i would do 1 scuba dive (as one was all i could afford!) so on the first day i got to practice my skills- the equiptment was so heavy but it was amazing being able to breathe under water! I then went snorkelling with the other girls- i had never done snorkelling before and found it amazing! the coral reef was undescribably beautiful and i saw so many fish. After we jumped in the hot tub and watched the sun set!!! The food was amazing and that night we watched a dvd about the illegal killing of sharks which was really interesting.
The next morning i awoke to find the boat was already moving- i had slept the latest of everyone (surprise surprise)! After a big breakfast it was time for my dive. ahhh!
I thought we would only go under for a minute then come back up so was amazed when cj (the dive instructer) grabbed my hand and dragged me through the water- it was really surreal and amazing to see the reef and the schoals of fish swimming around me. I also saw a nemo fish! Took loads of photos and although my ears hurt a few times it was an incredible experience! Although i was so glad to come to the surface! We went down about 12 metres i think!
After i relaxed on the boat and saw a turtle! (the night before we had seen a 100 year old turtle and it was interesting to think that the turtle would only have seen speed boats around the whitsundays in the last 50 years) We then had lunchc and started the 2 hour journey to whithaven beach. Me and adele sat up at the front of the boat and got absolutely soaked! It was a ten minute trek to the whitehaven veiw point but it was the best veiw i had seen so far this trip. The sand is pure white and the sea crystal clear! We spent a bit of time on the beach then back to the boat for another long journey. I sat up on deck with the captain and he let me drive the boat around a corner! We watched as the sun went down then had another brillliant dinner.
The next morning I woke up and sat for ages just looking at the vastness of the ocean around me. We went for an early morning snorkel (a splash at 7am!)- and i think this was the nicest part of the reef we had been to. I saw electric tourquoise fish! After this we headed back to airlie beach and were not allowed to clap the captain until he had docked the boat! It was nice to be back on dry land although i still felt like i was at sea for the next two days! I went for another nice walk along the the shopping centre and saw some more great veiws then had an early night.
I dont think i could handle the life at sea but it was an unforgettable two days!
