I stayed on magnetic island until december 17th. It was a good couple of weeks although at times very boring. I worked 10-2 each morning making beds etc- easy work but the morning is by far the hottest part of the day on magnetic so it was quite tough at times. In the afternoons i generally collapsed by the pool then in the evenings enjoyed the food from the restaurant that we got for free. I met loads of lovely people- crazy and lazy- the two hannahs- from brighton and galway and 3 german were girls in my room, stuart and julie- from wales and james the chef from london and a few others. The evenings were generally quite boring- apart from thursdays trivia night which we always won. The island was beautiful a proper tropical paradise- 'base' is literally right on the beach. The full moon party was good fun aswell although a bit overrated. I got a bus pass that took me round the island one day and went on the forts walk to see the bases they used in ww2. I bumped into scott who i had gone camping with in noosa (one of sam mcqweons friends) who was on the island for a holiday- i though this was crazy enough- magnetic is a 2 hour flight from brisbane, but the following day an even crazier thing happened. I had seen a girl who i thought looked like a girl who works with my friend lloyd in cult in belfast. I often would see her out and about when she was with lloyd. After hearing her accent i realised it was her. It was so strange being able to have a conversation with someone who knows loads of the same people! shes been in australia 6 months.
It was quite emotional leaving as i had got quite attatched to the place but next i headed to mission beach for 2 nights. From there i went white water rafting on the tully river- absolutely incredible although i feared for my life! I got a really good group- 3 english guys and 2 scottish girls. Although i was the first person to fall out out of all the rafts and kept falling out- so i got a bit scared towards the end! the main objective was to stay in after a while! I also did a cliff jump which was terrifying! I loved rafting though and was so glad i did it as i had always wanted to.
I left mission beach on 19th december and got on the oz experience bus to complete the final part of my journey on the east coast. It has taken me exactly 2 months- i left sydney on october 19th. Couldnt beleive it -That i had finally arrived. Such a sense of completion!! We all went out for dinner at the woolshed in carins and had a great night. I have travelled over 3000km from sydney! Gilligans hostel in cairns in luxury- lonely planet describe it as 'the ritz of all hostels' and its really nice to stay there. Tomorrow i will go to 'cape tribulation'- where 2 world heritage sites- the rainforest and the reef meet, then back to sydney on wednesday!
