Rachel's Eurotrip
Tuesday was an andulacian holiday so we didn't have school, yay! We signed up for a trip to Gibraltar with Discover Sevilla. They are a company that takes Americans out on trips to different places around sevilla, its pretty cool.
Anyways, Gibraltar is on the tip of spain but is actually a british colony. Ever heard of the straits of Gibraltar? Yea that's where I was! We were basically at the southernmost tip of Europe our tour guide said, and though it was a bit hazy we could make out northern Africa. It was pretty cool. You looked to your right and you saw the Mediterranean sea and la linea, the frontier town of spain adjacent to gib. You looked straight ahead you saw the straights of Gibraltar. And you looked to the left and you saw Africa and the Atlantic.
BUT, the real draw to gib are the APES!! They have the only non-human primates in all of Europe (aside from zoos obviously). They are macaques, and they were brought over by the british and there are over 300 of them. They are pretty domesticated, considering they jump around on cars and tourists all day. When I post my pics you will see that I had them on top of my head! They were adorable!! Definitely the highlight of my day was being with them.
The monkeys live on the rock, which is the bulk of gib which is teeny tiny. There are also caves in the rock which were cool to go through. There are also miles of tunnels dug into the rock that were used in WWII and are still used as military storage.
The city itself was cute and very small and very expensive just like Britain! But everyone there is bilingual...English and Spanish, so it was easy to get by.
I leave Saturday for paris to meet adam and I CANT WAIT! Anybody whose been there and has suggestions drop me a line!
Luego!
