ON the 3rd and 4th Josh and I did a wine tour that started in zagreb and ended in budapest. Last time josh was in hungary he met Gabor who took him on a wine tour and they have stayed friends ever since and he organized and guided this tour for us (he even picked us up at the zagreb airport!).
We began in the croatian slavonia region and then crossed the border into the hungarian villany region. The border crossing was quite a spectical considering we had, by that point, about 18 bottles of wine, and a ton of luggage stuffed into Gabor's tiny little car. The searched through the luggage but ultimately let us go.
I think Josh was in heaven those two days and it was quite an experience for me, I definitely am no whino like josh, but hopefully Ill learn (for my sanity I HOPE i learn...:) )
Our journey from wine country to budapest was also quite interesting. After getting stuck in traffic due to an accident, we pulled the side to let the EMS through and got ourselves a flat tire! Josh and Gabor heroically replaced the tire on the side of the highway (there are no curbs, mind you, we were just in the right lane with blinkers on...luckily it was the front right tire). They got the new tire on in record time and about 1km past where we got the first, the 2nd tire went flat too! Seriously it was unreal, oh and it was 10pm. Finally we got to our hotel and the scene was comical because of all the luggage and wine we had. The receptionist asked me if we were selling something because we had box and after box comnig off the elevator.
The wine tour days were very long and tiring (despite sitting in a car for most the time..) but we had finally arrived in budapest!!
