Arrived at Mission Beach with plans to soak up the sun for three days by the pool as there's not much else to do apart from Sky Dive and I never really managed to talk myself into that. So that's how I spent the first day, on the second I woke up early to go for a run on the beach but it was pouring with rain. What better way to spend a rainy day than to get even more wet white water rafting? So I went with a girl from my hostel to the Tully river and spent a whole day rafting.
It was so much fun! I had such a laugh all day, apart from the moment I thought I was going to die. We were given the choice to swim one of the rapids if we wanted to so I joined the queue of about 20 people lined up to jump in. We were taught which position to adopt as soon as we got into the water and that was that. So I jumped in and swam to the other side, as instructed. Without being able to take a second deep breath I was sucked under one of the rapids, then I emerged gasping and was sucked underneath again! By this time I was panicking and when I came to the top I was breathing uncontrolably fast and short breaths, one of the guides must've seen I wasn't enjoying it and threw me a rope to pull me in. Thank God! After that I couldn't stop thanking him! I got onto the bank coughed up a load of water and did a huge burp and I was ready to go again. I just took a breath at the wrong time apparently.
Had an amazing day and I would do it again tomorrow if it wasn't so expensive.
