Hey everyone I'm now blogging on Phnom Penh which is the capital of Cambodia we got here by bus from siem reap, the bus was fine there was karaoke on the while time ha and the kids in front kept staring at me, probably due to the fact I was the only white person on there. When we got to the bus station we were meant to have had a free pick up from the hostel but it went there, we waited for half hour then gave up and got in a tuk tuk and dropped off there, our pick up had gone to another bus station and collected two other people by mistake (Tara and Liam )
When we checked in we got like a 10 minute speech about the area etc I felt like I was in school.
We were staying in an 8 bed dorm it was all mattresses on the floor with a mosquito net and an individual fan, we were so hungry as we hadn't had lunch so we headed out for dinner and got a bugette chips and a beer and then went back to the hostel with the intentions of going back out again later to the market but we were so exhausted from all the early wake ups the last few days that we couldn't go, Dave was fast asleep by about half 7 and I somehow stayed up till 12.
The next morning we went to s21 prison and the killing fields, we shared a tuk tuk with Tara and Liam as we had started speaking to them and it made it cheaper for everyone. We went to s21 prison 1st I didn't know loads about it before I went, only what Dave had told me the night before as he googled it.
It used to be an old school and you walked around the torture chambers and cells where they were all imprisioned and you still see the blood stains on the floor, there was a museum there aswell explaining about what happened and had photos of the victims which weren't nice to see. The last either 10 or 14 prisoners killed there which they found when they found the sight were also buried at the front.
After we went to the killing fields which is where people were taken for execution here we had an audio tour and walked around listening to the player explaining each part (won't go into it now as its not nice but I took pictures of each board explaining what happened so you can look at them if you want to know) the killing fields were filled with mass graves and clothes and bone remains, it was an eary place and hard to imagine what happened there especially seeming it wasn't that log ago most of you would of been alive then.
When we got back we all go showered and headed out for dinner and a couple of beers with Liam and Tara, we went to a thai resteraunt and it wasnt as cheap as we would of liked so me and dave shared a chicken red curry and got a rice each it was delicious!
We didn't have a late night as we were so exhausted from walking around all day and it looked like all the pubs around riverside were closing about 10pm.
The next morning Tara and Liam went to siem reap and we went out to see the palace, it was a rubbish day and just kept raining and so we didn't want to pay to go in the place as were cheep scates, we just weren't fussed about seeing the inside so we just took a couple of pics of the outside and went and got some lunch, we stopped and ate at a food stall and had pork and rice and it was discusting I'm not too sure if the pork was cooked ok either looked a bit pink, after such a bad lunch we went back and relaxed before going out for dinner and we went back to the Thai resteraunt that we had eaten in the night before, it was just as good! We love Thai red curry.
The next morning we got us for our bus to sihnoukville which was a 5 hour drive away. Love you and miss you all loads xxx
