The next day we drove from Broome, through Fitzroy Crossing, stayed the night in Halls Creek and carried on up to Kununurra and Lake Argyle. That is a lot of driving and Sion nearly hit a cow.
So to give ourselves a bit of a break we stayed by Lake Argyle for a few days. It is the largest man made lake in Australia and is so big they classify it as an inland sea. It is 950 sq km and when it is flooded can reach 2000 sq km. It can hold 21 times more water than Sydney Harbour. And if you are wondering where we got all our facts we went on a sunset cruise of the lake and our guide told us all about it.
On the cruise we looked for rock wallabies, fed some fish and saw a baby crocodile. In the lake there are catfish and archer fish, also known as squirters, which Rachel learnt when she got squirted right in the face while she was feeding them. The lake is amazing it is surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges and looks magnificent, photos don't do it justice. We watched the sunset over the mountains whilst swimming in the lake (which was about 28 degrees C), drinking beer and eating crackers from a floating tray. It was a unique and amazing way to watch the sunset. Also there are about 25,000 crocodiles living in the lake but they are freshwater ones, so they probably wouldn't have eaten us!
