The Radisson Blu Royal Park hotel is located North of Hagaparken which is a large park which has a large lake as one of its borders. Hagaparken has a number of attractions one of which is the Fjärilshuset, which is the butterfly house in english.
After visiting the Vasa this morning Chris and I had to come back to the hotel in order for him to register for the conference, since we didn't want to waste the rest of the afternoon we took a walk through the forests of Hagaparken to the butterfly house! As we walked in Chris' glasses steamed up and we entered into a humid rainforest with little birds chirping, terrapins, koi, massive catfish and a variety of other fishies swimming in the ponds! There were also huge, spiked trees which were bent in strange shapes with really large leaves! And there were butterflies!
There were butterflies that looked just like leaves from the side, but when they spread their wings they had many bright colours and spots! They were so well camouflaged you had to look for the butterflies actively unless they came flying Into to your face! The butterfly house didn't only store butterflies, there were frogs, cockroaches, tortoises, funny mini tubby birds with orange feet and glittery gold priyana's which I assume is the Swedish word for piranha, because these fish had the biggest and sharpest teeth ever! And they were retractable!
Once we had had our fill of Piryana's, parrots and other creatures we had a lovely stroll past brunnsviken lake through the woods an past some horses back to the hotel to get ready for dinner!
Have a look at our butterfly photos!
