Hello!
Long time no see, or talk.. Just to warn you, this is going to be a very long post, because I have been away for so long and I don't want you to kiss out on my adventures!
Like I said in my last post, the first stop after Jo'burg was Kruger National Park. It was fantastic! Seeing rhinos, elephants, baboons, giraffes, a lion, hyenas and Zazu, was a great experience. Although I had seen/touched most of the animals with the voluntary project, it is a very different story when you see them in the wild. Unfortunately, no big five... The stupid leopards were hiding! But that did not spoil the fun! I had an amazing group of people around me and a terrific guide, so what else do you want?! Well, maybe a pool, since it was 43 degrees... Ih wait, we had that! Can you imagine? A pool when your camping? A-ma-zing!
After this, I thought I was going to Drakensberg, but my driver did not know... He said he was supposed to drive me back to the hostel in Jo'burg. Hell no! With those creepy old guys..? So I decided to stay at the hostel of the majority of the group, in Pretoria. That was nice! Jo'burg just sucks and Pretoria is awesome. So I changed my bazbus ticket and got picked up the next day.
Next stop, Drakensberg! I went to this 5 star backpackers hostel, which was beautiful... But also very expensive and if you don't have your own vehicle and you want to see something, you have to book a tour with them... Bloody money suckers! For that reason, I thought 2 nights and 1 tour was enough. The tour was beautiful and exhaustibg, don't get me wrong, but for me it was enough. Of course Bazbus was not driving the next day. Fortunately, I met this amazing Ducht couple who adopted me and took me with them to Coffee Bay.
And there we are, in Coffee Bay. Pouring rain, cold and at the beach.. Ideal! No, seriously, even though we were wet to the core, it was lovely. Nice people, a beautiful beach, about 50 dolphins and the best shower ever. Did I say 50 dolphins? Yes I did! I have never seen anything so pretty and exciting! Don't expect to see photographs, because I did not take my camera with me - rainy remember.. So after all, Coffee Bay was a hell of an experience! And remember I mentioned the amazing Dutch couple? The become even more amazing, the also took me to Chintsa! Like I said, they adopted me. And we were off to Chintsa.
Chintsa was the next amazing beach! The weather got a bit better and when we were having breakfast, we saw whales! That makes the whole place holy, believe me! Again no camera, though.
After breakfast, I walked to the "supermarket". Just a walk over the beach and you're there. Guess who I met there?! I saw a volunteer from my project in Hartebeespoort! Her next project was in Chintsa. How small is the world then?
From Chintsa I continued my journey alone. Ready to go to the source of inspiration of Tolkien, Hogsback. I jumped in the Bazbus and prepared for a long trip. We stopped in East London, which is half an hour from Chintsa, to drop off some backpackers - including me.. The driver told me that I should have organised a shuttle. Little did I know. But fortunately, the girl at the hostel was very nice! She gave me a double room for the price of a dorm. How sweet?!
After convincing two Canadians to go to Hogsback too, we left the next morning. It was definately worth the wait! Hogsback is stunning and the hostel was amazing too. They had great pizza and brownies with ice cream, the rooms were in Lord of the Rings theme and the dogs were very welcoming. Oh, let's not forget the bath tub with the amazing view! They just put a tub outside, so you can take a bath with the most spectacular view over the valley and the mountains! You can probably imagine why I spent an extra night there. And somehow, I manage to be liked.. This Belgian couple offered to drop me off at the backpackers. How nice!
That brings us back to this moment. I am now in East London, waiting for the bazbus to pick me up and bring me to Port Elizabeth. From there I will try to make a trip to the Addo elephant sanctuary. So I will keep you posted!
