Got robbed while sleeping on the bus from Puno, only a few hours into the journey aswell. So i'm now left without any music for the rest of our trip, Sarah will probably be driven mad by me if we have to do any long journeys! Also no credit card to bail us out when Sarah's bank card bounces. Luckily they left or didn't see the camera and we got to keep the crackers, passports and broken sunnies!
Not a great start to our stay in Cusco but you just have to roll with these things! Tourist policeman not very helpful on first visit and didn't speak english either. Went back today and had to pay 3soles for a report to be done?! Much friendlier police today. Telephoned to cancel the credit card and to find out they won't issue another because i didn't know what the password the credit limit was on the card! Whoever remembers this kind of information is one sick individual in my eyes!
Gad a night out to help sooth our loss but we lived to regret this with 2 very bad hangovers. Danced the night away at some trance club that also played Cotton eyed Joe, which we danced the 'gay gordons' too and taught everyone who to 'do' the Macarena! Very embarassing looking back on it. Bumped into a Birmingham lass we had stayed with in the 'Line House' in Argentina 2 weeks before aswell, such a small world! She stayed clear of us after seeing Sarah dance up on the stage. People are now shouting out Scotland in Spanish to us in the streets, we are presuming we met them at the night club but the memories escape us!
Staying at La casa de mi abuelo, a luxury 60pesos with own bathroom and TV/DVD player but the drains smell rotten in our room! Definately not good for hangovers. Owned by a lovely helpful woman.
Went to see the marcels of the Macchu Picchu ruins yesterday, the uncomfortable 44$ train leaves at 6.15am and returns at around 8pm. A lovely sunny, clear day for it. Great views from being stuck inbetween all those mountains. 12$ for bus up and down to site. 120pesos for M.P 3 day entry pass, half price with ISIC card (also stolen on night bus!), very frustrating!! Got plenty of pics but it doesn't really do the place justice because it's so big. Workers doing alot of restoration, but these guys aren't just repairing they are putting complete walls and roofs on buildings! Give it another 20yrs and it might become a shopping mall.
Plenty of different walks to choose from, i attempted an uphill walk but was huffing and puffing far too much for my liking. Sarah will tell people i threw a hissy fit but i done nothing of the sort!
Spotted a scary lizard that looked like a leopard - well it's skin had the same print anyway. We didn't have a guide or booklet to tell us things so made up our own theories on the place, which i think is done by many people anyway because so little is known. We reckon you need to break into the American's Yale University to find out the truth and to see if they found any bones or instruments from the site. We learnt this from evesdropping on the family sitting beside us on train there, but the man also said that the Andean mountains were made millions a years ago by the collision of two continents! I'm not sure what to believe about the place.
Great food all over in Cusco, tried Indian (in an Oz pub of all places), chinese, steaks and pizza. A 2 course and a tea might only cost you 4$!
Sleep tight x
