Flamin heck, it seems like ages since i was last on here. Thats because since Byron Bay its been pretty much non stop, mixed with disaster (read on for the disaster bit). Just gotta try and remember it all now. We are currently in Airlie Beach, following our whitsundays adventure trip
Byron Bay was once again one of my favourite places in Aussie. We had three cracking days on the surf and we were all catching waves on the second and third days. Two big nights on the booze also followed, one in the infamous cheeky monkeys bar, dancing on the tables and playing drinking games all night. Its still great.
We left Byron Bay for the short two hour trip to Brisbane, staying in cloud 9. This has turned out to be one of my least favourite hostels so far as my watch was stolen from the shower room. Am really sorry Mike, this was the watch that you gave to me. Well gutted about it. Our first room was like the pit of death. No fan or air conditioning, full of blokes and a window in the roof to let all the light in at 6am. Luckily we got a free upgrade to an air conditioned room the next night. I think they took pity on me and my lost watch. From Brisbane we also visited Australia Zoo. For those who dont know, it is Steve Irwin's legendary zoo. Absolutely fantastic. We went into the crocoseum to see an animal show and Willetts was chosen to stand up and hold is arms out while shouting Coo Coo so some birds would land on his arm. It turned out to be a gimmick and the birds just fly off, haha. He looked like a right twit. We also shouted Crikey as loud as we could to send it to the heavens for good old Stevo. Brilliant day out. We also had a big night out in Brisbane on our last night. It consisted of a lot of jugs of beer and drinking games. Wills had to dance around in a pair of knee length womens boots, photos to come of that. I had to run up the main road with my top off pretending i was on fire. Unfortunately i fell as i was turning around and grazed all my back. It hurt the next day. Oh, i also had to go over to a randon bloke and start stroking his head. Worryingly, he seemed to enjoy it. Picture of that as well. Funny night
FLAMIN FRASER (why?????? read on)
The next day we set off for Hervey Bay and Flamin Fraser with our hangovers ready in place. Glad it wasnt my turn to drive. We would stay in Hervey Bay for one night and had to be up at 6am ready for the briefing. Fraser island is the biggest sand island in the world. Everyone travelling up the east coast of australia goes there for the 2 night, four wheel drive, camping experience on the island. So basically the first 3 hours you get put into your groups, buy all your food and drink and get briefed on safety and all that stuff. I volunteered to be the first driver, so had to drive the car to the boat and was the first to drive on the island ( A decision i would later regret). There were 11 people in our group, which included 3 Brazilian lads, one Swiss girl and the rest were English. So... Im on the island driving the car on he sand tracks. Everyone is lovin being bounced all over the place. Then our radio concs out. Oh well, never mind. I continue driving and people start noticing a funny smell. It was at this point that I began losing all power from the car and smoke started coming through the dash board. I stopped the car and we all got out. Then flames started coming out the bonnet. If anyone has seen the coach scene from "The jolly boys outing" in Only Fools Horses then this was a carbon copy. We all ran away from the car as it went up in flames. Somehow, Me, Tom and Lee got split from the rest of the group. It was at this point that we started getting seriously worried about a bush fire. The majority of Fraser island is forest ground and the car was ablaze in the middle of it. We managed to hop into a couple of other four wheel drive cars and headed away from the area. Luckily a bush fire did not break out and we saw a fire engine heading to the car. When we eventually got back to the car, to our horror, it was completely burned to the frame. My bag was on the top. I lost my ipod, camera, oakley glasses. All in all about 600 pounds worth of stuff. But the worst thing is that we lost Little Mikey, our Panda mascot. We are currently creating a ballad in his honour and organising his funeral. He was a good panda. He had such a great christmas day on the beach. I can still picture him with his little santa hat on. Brings a tear to my eye.
Anyway, I was a little afraid that i was gonna get a right ear blasting from the owner of the hire company. In his introductory speech he kept saying that anything you break, you own, and obviously have to pay for. "You put a dent in my car and im gonna charge you for it" were his last words i think. HAHA. As it wasnt my fault everyone was pretty good to us. Free beer for the night and another 6am start. We had to go through the whole 3 hour process again the next day. But there was a real bonding of the group because of our experience. They gave us another car and away we went. 3 days on Fraser island, getting drunk and going to lakes and creeks. Sleeping with spiders and Dingoes, great stuff. The car also made it through the whole three days. Apparently we were the first people in the companys 20 year history to blow up one of their vehicles. The whole of the island heard about it and because i was the driver, i got the most stick about it. Even now as we travel up the coast, people seem to know about the group that blew up their car on fraser island, lol. Makes for a good story. Also, we have met some really good friends because of our catastrophe, who are also here with us at Airlie Beach . Just got the annoying thing of insurance to think about now.
