Friday : Sunny
Checkout was at 10am and we were on the metro not long after that. It took a couple train changes to get to the bus station, on the outskirts of Berlin.
We were there earlier than we needed to be. So we walked around to try and find a place to get breakfast and had wifi. The only place we could find was a diner, but that was a bit pricy. We did come across a park with an off license nearby.
Kim picked up a great brunch, we made sandwiches, juice, cake and iced coffees. I had some fun feeding some ducks in the pond with the left over bread, while Kim read her book.
When the time was right we went back up to the bus station and hopped on the bus. It was a comfy bus and the trip went really quick.
The hostel in Dresden was no more than a few hundred meters from we're we hopped off. Probably the easiest place we have ever had to find. It was an Australian themed hostel which gave us a bit of a taste of home sweet home. Its a big hostel with plenty of space, and we were in a 4 bed dorm, so hopefully we can get a solid nights sleep, unlike in previous hostels.
Dresden is having a big annual city wide festival this weekend. Where in 2006 celebrated 800 years as a city. Pretty cool timing!
We setup our room then went for a walk around the hostel. It's the alternative/trendy area of Dresden that's for sure, loads of street art and bars and cafes. We went to a bottle shop and picked up some ciders to have in the nice park. There were loads of people out enjoying the sun, some off the more alternative looking crowd brought speakers and were playing pretty trancey music. Others were with the families and friends sitting in groups playing games, eating and drinking.
After the nice rest in the park we continued our walk through this part of town, until we passed another bottle shop. We picked up some more cheap beers, 60 euro cents so cheap! One of the beers was a beer with coke mixer. We thought that we would give it a go to see if it tasted like the Russian kvass. It didn't but it wasn't too bad.
We were near the Elbe riverside so we walked along it for awhile passing through the festival popup bars, clubs and stalls till we found a nice spot to enjoy our drinks overlooking the old town.
We watched the sun set and the lights turn on over the city and didn't leave the festival until it was after 10:30, and it was still going strong! The beers were flowing, DJs and bands were cranking. On the walk back we tried these yummy cheese pocket things called Krauterhansbrot. Delicious! I must say I'm liking Dresden a lot so far.
