Woke up early to Liam hung over as hell, packing madly to catch his bus in time for his tour of Halong Bay. Rikki and Liam's stories from the snake tour the previous night were crazy. They held live snakes, were taught how to kill them, slice them open, eat their hearts, drain their blood, mix their blood with rice wine for shots, ate snake bone stirfry, snake skin salad, snake muscle stirfry and steak ribs… so disgusting the pics show it all.. glad I stuck to my red wine and French cuisine J ps. Rikki didn't kill the snake nor did she eat the heart.. but she had the option to do so. Apparently snake blood is an aphrodisiac.hmmm?? Anyway goodbye Liam. See you down the line soon! Showered, we head down for a baguette and banana for breaky and then out into the havoc to find some warmer clothes for the next adventure in sapa. Sapa is a little village in North Vietnam, situated 6000m above sea level, nestled between the mountains… as well as being VERY COLD! We heard rumors of temperatures dropping as low as 2 degrees during the night. However first stop a coffee, coconut ball, croquet madam and a chill out at a cute little French café we found the day before… delicious! After that we headed to the supermarket to buy socks and another towel (towel tally = 3), then to the beautiful lake in the middle of Hanoi and chilled out and munched on our rice cracker purchases… Rikki was conned into buy a Vietnam war history book that turned out to be a photocopied version.. Oh well. Afternoon tea we found a beautiful restaurant by the lake and ate spring rolls and vegetable soup and giggled at the millions of Americans that were swarming the place, eating huge deserts.. With our long sleeve shirts in tow we headed back to the hostel (not without the girlies stopping of for a foot scrub and pedi). Burgers and beer for dinner it was time to get the overnight train to Sapa. 3 bed high bunk beds, 6 to a room, 40cm between us the ceiling, oreos, beers, lots of laughs and finally a good sleep. We love sleepers! Oh Siobhan just reminded me of the 'SKANKY' toilets on the train: Steel hole in the ground, finishing on the track… smell = can smell 2 carriages away.
