Saturday night I went to Roslyn's birthday that Claus had invited me to Prior to departing for Germany.
At first I was hesitant in going because at this point I have been here a week, in a country I don't know and don't speak the language of, in an isolated place with VERY limited public transport. So I figured it was going to be rather hard to get there and back... okay well I was a bit lazy and couldn't exactly be bothered to go through the stress of organising it all.
But yeah I ended up going. So as if I wasn't close enough to Austria already... no joke Missen is about 20 km from Austria... Oberstaufen is about 10. This has nothing to do with anything, but just saying.
So the party was at a 'Landhaus' as they are called... like a hotel. (as seen in the picture. It was up high in the mountains with a sweet veiw of Oberstaufen and surrounds. I took some photos on my phone (because my camera's charger is LOST!) but you can't see the damn buldings... stupid phone.
Anyway so the location was nice, but so were the people. Claus arranged for me to get a lift with his niece (step niece really) from Immenstadt, a close by town. She was really nice and spoke english well. She had been an au pair for about a year in England :) I met here mum, dad (Claus' brother and owner of the Landhaus), sister and brother... they were all around my age so that was good. I also met another really nice guy from Frankfurt, who had just spent 6 months in America. (oh mum about the whole marrying a German guy while I am over here, the possibilities are getting higher and higher, especially because the family's lasy Au Pair got married here just the other week and now lives 30 minutes away in Kempton).
Anyway, so i met a fair amount of people, no one of too much significance except for the people mentioned above. (especially the guy from Frankfurt mum, yep my future German husband). It was good to hear Australians speaks (there were a few at the party), you can really hear the Australian accent, like seriously guys, I can notice how we talk, normally it is un-noticable, but spend a week in another country, listening to NO Australian accents the BAAAM, you hear one and it stands out like a lake in the desert.
When I first arrived at the party, it hadn't started, I came in the middle of the day, the party thing didn't start until about 4pm, even though practically everyone was there because most people were staying at the Landhaus. Anyway, Claus' sister immediately stuck to me, lovely old lady but man is she one of those perfectionistical educational people (yep my version of english), she talked to me about intellectual things and made me say everything she said in German, then kicked some poor kid off the computer so she could register me in an online, German course to teach me the grammatics of the language. MAN, I don't even have a vocab to put the gramma to yet. She sat with me and made me start this course... No joke we were there for about 2 HOURS!
So I think maybe the food at the party was German... Nothing was really identifiable except the tomato and mozzerella stack. It all tasted alright I suppose. On that note, the food here isn't the best. As expected the only meat I have had is processed, 'Wurst' pronounced 'vurst' but really should stick with being described as 'worst'. Yep not a fan of processed meat. If its not processed meat we are eating for dinner, its wierd German 'pasta/noodles' with something weird on top like spinach sauce or saurkraut (however you spell it).
Each morning I go to the corner store ( pretty much just across the road), to buy the bread, (sometimes we have that for dinner too, yep you guessed it with processed meat) we eat bread for breakfast, assorted breads but. I usually have a pretzle, which I had in Australia before I went and didn't mind, I enjoyed it with butter, but here thats just wierd "butter? that is all!?" So i have been socially and culturally pressured into putting homemade Jam on my pretzle too. The only other thing I eat is yoghurt and museli and drink Apfel Saft (apple juice), with soda water, they have a soda stream and never drink just flat water from the tap.
Okay, gone a little off track, and I remember I was going to make a point somewhere in the food description but I can't remember what, so I hope you got something good out of it ha.
Laters.

mum I know you're only teasing me about marrying a German, but it is probably a good time to confess something to you .... Before you left I contacted the European Embassy and made an arrangement - if you attempt to marry any European man they will deport you immediately back to Australia!
Elisa Mum, don't be stupid. You didn't do that.
