About the partner organisation
Sahmakum Teang Tnaut (STT) is a non-profit Cambodian NGO registered with the Ministry of Interior. It works with and for marginalised urban communities in Phnom Penh and Kampot affected by land tenure insecurity, evictions and/or poor access to basic infrastructure needs. Through working directly with communities and groups willing to organise and help themselves, STT supports improvements to physical surroundings and community infrastructure, and empowers communities by helping build stakeholder confidence in voicing concerns about housing issues. Furthermore, STT conducts ongoing research and documentation of urban trends and cycles in Cambodia.
About my position
This field volunteer position will involve my supporting the technical aspects of STT's current projects. My role emphasises building local staff capacity in map production, as well as in the collection, management and analysis of spatial data. This will contribute to STT and partners’ advocacy efforts.
Additionally, an aim of STT is to strengthen research skills amongst their staff. My work as a field volunteer will focus on developing staff skills in this area. Whilst I will work predominantly with technical programme staff, I will also provide technical capacity building to advocacy programme staff, including training in GPS, mapping, and data management skills.

John Fleming Hi Wil - great to hear that the position has finally taken off. I am sure that it will involve new adventures and a high degree of personal satisfaction. I am going well with work piling in. There is so much happening in QLD and really not enough skilled people. My latest project is a training course for engineers on pipeline legislation & standards. Should be fun. I'll keep watching the blog. All the best. John F.
Anthony O'Neill Hey mate, looks like you're putting it all out there and trying different things which, from my perspective would test me, especially an appetite for spiders - you can have that. But besides that, it sounds like a great initiative and something you'll never forget. Well done.On a short note, will you be back for the Brisbane trailwalker?? Registration is next Monday (ie. 21st Nov) We've got one team definately - Myself, Neil, Leila & Casey, but have just recently sent out an email to the other guys to get there commitment as well. Let me know if you're definately in. Keep it real mate.Anthony
