We left Nha Trang this morning and headed further south to the beach town of Mui Ne. Six hours stuffed into the back of a bus with a barely functioning aircon, but we made it.
Upon arrival, we checked into our small beachside hotel and were given a room which was literally 15 metres from the beach. We wanted the beach front room, but it had already been taken - what a tough time we're having J
After chilling out for the rest of that day, we rented a scooter the next morning and headed off to the red sand dunes near Mui Ne. Boy, was that hot!!! After venturing out on the dunes wearing flip flops, the hot sand burned our feet so much that we gave up and retreated back to our scooter. The local kids were badgering us to rent these hard plastic panels with guide ropes in them (toboggans of sorts), with which to sled down the dunes with. Rolling about in hot red sand in 35 degree heat didn't hold much appeal for us though, so it was goodbye red dunes and hello white beach and cold beer.
As my birthday was coming up shortly, we treated ourselves to more luxurious accommodation and checked in at the Mui Ne Hills guesthouse, which is run by a Belgian and his Cambodian partner. They were so helpful and friendly and even told us to go "resort hopping" on my birthday so that we could treat ourselves to the 4 and 5 star beach resorts. Off we strolled into one of the posh resorts as if we belonged there and flopped down on their beach loungers. After about 2 hours we had to get some fluids (sunbathing is thirsty work!), and of course they asked for our room number even though we paid in cash. Busted!!! So off we headed back to our hotel at the top of the hill for a swim. The rest of our stay at Mui Ne Hills was absolutely amazing. The staff even organised a surprise birthday party for me, (which most of the other guests attended) as well as a huge and very delicious birthday cake and free cocktails! Absolute heaven!
