That is a picture of PRague, not Cesky Krumlov, which incidentally is the most beautiful place either of us have ever been to. It is a small village set amongst the mountains and the river goes right through the centre of the town. It has an enormous disney-esque castle on the top of its hill. It is amazing.
We arrived in Prague on the morning before heading off to Cesky on an ancient train (think Harry Potter) which took us through beautiful countryside on tracks which looked like they hadnt been maintained since they were first put down. We arrived in a clapped out old station where Jan our dude of a hotel owner picked us up to take us to a lovely hotel on the edge of the village. We spent the afternoon just wandering through the old town, up the cobbled streets to the Castle. The map of the Castle informed us that there was a bear moat. This led to many jokes about the lack of bears in the area and the success of the moat. When we got to the moat Michael informed Jenny that there were infact bears in the moat. "Nah, your joking, shut up... I dont believe you... s*** there are actually bears in the moat!". The dude who lived in the castle knew the score, using 3 massive grizzly bears to protect his castle.
The next day we decided that a 6 hour canoeing trip would be an excellent idea. This day was also the day we both failed at life. We set off on the river in glorious sunshine, stopping off at the many bars along the river, frolicking in the sun and singing sea shanties! Michael proclaimed himself a sun god as he ripped off his shirt to allow his ripped body to be basked in the glorious sunshine, meanwhile Jenny waved the factor 30 at him, to which Michael, in his sun god manner, refused the offer. A few hours later, a thunder storm and terrential rain kicked off. We spent an hour sheltering in a bar, whilst our canoe filled with rain water and the Czech men nearby attempted to persuade Jenny that stripping down to her bikini would make her less cold. She did not oblige them. Once the rain died down we set off on to the much stronger currents of the river, with a boat filled with significantly more water. We enjoyed going down the rapids, which resulted in yet more water in the boat. In fact we were enjoying it so much we missed the place where we were meant to stop and leave the boat. We then panicked and capsized and held on to the boat for dear life as Michael,s flip flops and jennys waterproof went floating down the river and we were forced to drag the boat now to the brim with water onto the side of the river and await rescue from a Czech man.
The evening was spent soothing Michaels hideously sunburnt back and Jenny thinking she was seriously ill because of pains in her arms. Turns out canoeing for 6 hours gives you muscle strain - a fact Jenny chose to overlook as she lay pronouncing her imminent death. We are never canoeing again, despite our earlier proclomations that we would return to England and purchase a canoe for use on weekends.
Thursday was spent feeling very sorry for ourselves before heading off to Budapest!
