Morning Wombats
Yes, I'm alive, I made the 8.5 hour journey from Long Jetty, Central Coast to Cowra (the middle of nowhere)
I was pretty nervous I have to admit, I didn't know these people, I hadn't even spoken to them on the phone and here I was agreeing to travelling across the country to come stay on their farm... I was pretty sure they weren't axe murderers though so I took the risk.
Their actually really awesome people and the house I'm in is good fun, typically I'm in a house full of Brits, so Australian, NOT! But they are lovely and we all get on so it makes the hard labour days more worth it when you get to go home and have a laugh! The house is pretty spacious and I have a big room, which only just got a light installed so getting changed in the dark has been a fun challenge, I've made a blind out of newspaper to stop the breeze coming in, I'm a genius... until it rains that is! hehe!
Well onto the actual job I'm doing.... mmm when I next hit Subway and make an order, I will definetely be saying 'and no lettuce please'... ! Not that it's disgusting, obviously it's the best lettuce ever but after spending only 3 days in the lettuce fields, I don't ever want to eat the stuff again!
They grow spinach, baby cos, big cos and iceburg.... all cutting and packing jobs but the iceburg is the b**** of the job that no one in this place enjoys doing! You have to stand behind a moving tractor with a conveyor belt attached to it, hack off the iceburg and chuck it onto the belt BUT you have to keep up with the tractors pace and that's the b**** of the job... lucky it wasn't raining when we did it... and hopefully for Mon, Tues and Thurs it won't rain either when we have to do it all over again... oh yeah we have to fill about 76 crates a day as well! So basically next time you order from Maccy Ds, Subway or KFC you better order lots of lettuce and remember I slaved away in a field 5 days a week to harvest it just for you :) You should also remember that I got to hang off the side of a tractor as mode of transport to the fields and back and soon will be apparently forced to drive one.... yikes!!! mmm OH&S... stuff that! ;) My lift to the farm from the house however is in the form of a 1985 Ford Telsta which my housemates have named Elton, he comes with pink interior, a bizarre fairy thing hanging from the mirror and likes to be started about 10 times every morning as he doesn't like the cold.
Anyway, tonight I will be watching the Roosters vs Panthers, CONGRATS TO THE TIGERS LAST NIGHT FOR AN EPIC GAME!....and depending on the diary, we might do a house outing to watch the finals in Sydney! :) Should be fun!
We're also off to the local for a pub lunch tomorrow which I'm stoked about cos I haven't had a Sunday roast since mmmm England??? THAT'S JUST WRONG!
Ok chooks, must be off, TV to watch, Noodles to eat and a dead fox to remove from the front door way, haha, love the country boys, always up to no good!
Miss and love you all, will update the blog soon with the latest, especially after I've been to Canowindra bakery for $1 bread, swam in the dam, visited some random non-historic castle and gone out pigging with the boys!
