Bula Bula!!!! Toto we're not in Kansas anymore. What a difference I stepped off the plane and there was a three piece band waiting to me us. Everyone kept saying Hula to me. I thought they wanted me to take part in something involving a large hoop then I was informed that it was a greeting and it was actually Bulla! Well Bulla to you all! The Fijian people actually make you feel welcome, no questions about what my parents did for a living and one of the customs officers actually smiled at me. I think my terrorist status has been somewhat demoted. I almost felt welcome, a quick stamp in the passport and I was off.
First night was spent in Nadi the main city and bloody hell do you know you've hit the tropics. Got in quite late and had 12 mosquito bites by 11pm. I checked into my dorm late and tried not to squash the four frogs lined up by the door waiting to come in. I don't know what they were looking for but every time I open the door there they were. I made my way to the bathroom opened the door and there was a spider running across the wall the size of my hand. Now I'm not terrified of spiders but I don't like them none too much, and this one was possessed. It almost flew across the wall and then back towards me. I screamed like a Banshee and woke the whole of the dorm. It was a great way to meet my room mates chasing a possessed spider at 12.30 in the morning shaking like a small child. I lay in bed for the rest of the night worried that I was going to wake up in a trace with it stuck to my face the next morning, we never did manage to catch it.
The next day I made my way to the beach house. A resort on the coast where apparently they filmed Celebrity Love Island. I figured if it was good enough for Channel 4 or what ever station it was on it must be good. Five days later, I still haven't left. It is paradise, it has been turned into a luxury backpackers. I feel like I have landed an extras part in the film The Beach. There are people from all over the world staying here and it is like a little community. We get up have Breakfast, then you can snorkel, go out in boats, swim, surf. Then in the afternoon you have to do one of the activities like basket weaving, horse riding, or jungle trekking, volley ball etc. I've done them all and even came face to face with a rather large snake whilst barefoot in the jungle. We all eat dinner together and sit on the beach round the bonfire at night drinking beer. I only wish I could stay longer. Fiji is beautiful and the people are amazing.
